Code F1 comes up 2001 GSX-R 1000? |
I'm about to buy a 2001 GSX-R 1000 and when i went to look at the bike, the code F1 came up on screen...also the oil/temperature light was on... he said that it was because the bike wasnt warmed up enough and when the temp reached normal it shuts off....by the end i forgot to check if it was off...my question is...was he telling the truth or is there a bigger problem with the bike... thank you It's not F1, it's FI, as in Fuel Injection. If the FI system is hosed, then someone's trying to screw you. I have heard of some possible recalls or simple fixes to FI indications on some bikes, so you might want to do some Googling and see if you can't learn a little more about the real problem BEFORE you buy. BTW, if it's finally time to "step up" to a literbike, you should be WELL informed of how to find this information, as you have, of course, spent YEARS riding smaller bikes and honing your skills as well as doing your homework on your next purchase, right? Right? If the FI light came on, then there's a problem a brewing LOL The problem may just be intermittent for now, or a sensor is going bad. I'd get that figured out before buying the bike. FI problems can run up to over $1000. An ECM (computer) is over $800 There's an oil light and a temperature light. They each warn you of different things. The oil light checks for oil pressure. If the light stays on for more then a second or two after the engine starts running, then it's got problems. The crankshaft and camshaft journals are being starved of oil lubrication. The temp light tells you if the engine is overheating. That will take a while to come on, from a cold engine start. |
