Exercise and fearing foods...? |
I work out 6 days a week. I go in the mornings and evenings on MWF and the rest of the days I just go in the evening. I do a solid hour of cardio on a combination of the following machines, at about 20 mins per machine: rowing (10 mins), treadmill, stationary bike, stairstepper, arctrainer, elliptical trainer. 4 days a week I do some light strength training. Over the past 6 weeks I've cut down on my sugars, bad fats, and starches. I've come to the point where I am scared to eat bread, white rice, and even peanut butter. Whenever I am hungry and go to the kitchen, I find that all I can have is raw fruits and vegetables, lentil soup, and yogurt. Everything else to me seems like it could make or break my weight loss. How can I stop being scared and eat pasta or other foods, I do eat nuts, cheese, chicken, avocado, crackers maybe once a week or less, sour cream sometimes,...but when it comes to a meal, I fill up on melon or strawberries, and fear touching processed or hi-cal food I am a psych major and am currently in a class "addictions and compulsive behaviors" at my college. we actually covered eating disorders last week and i've also been bulemic. what is sounds like is that you're VERY close to becoming or being anorexic. You're scared to eat regular foods that contain the protiens and vitamins your body needs to operate, and it seems like it's getting in the way of your regular lifestyle. What I would think about to help yourself get thru this mental block of healthy eating is that if you keep going the pace you are, anorexia is what you'll get, if not death in the long run. Anorexia is a lifestyle if you adapt to it too quickly and dependantly. It's very hard for people who have the same types of problems as you to go from eating vegatables, fruits, nuts and water to full, healthy meals. Just remember, there is plenty of help out there for you, and plenty of ways to be skinny/in shape/fit without starving yourself and on a constant regimen of exercise, I swear! Its okay to not eat the 'bad foods', just remember your body needs the 'good foods'! And working out isn't bad, just when you go overboard. Most trainers will tell you that you shouldn't work out everyday and that it's most healthy to give your body and in-between day to help your muscles get adjusted to their new strength/flexibility. I hope I helped!! :) It's okay to have those "naughty" foods as an occasional treat...just don't gorge on them...a reasonable sized portion isn't going to sabatoge your weight loss program... Congrats by the way...sounds like you are doing great and working hard! i eat pastas for carbs before i go for a 2 mile jog so you dont get tired while you work out...its really not that bad All the fruit is good and everything, but you have every right to fear high calorie foods. What you need to do though is eat low calories, lean meats like white chicken breast, and fish. That way you are getting your protein and not hurting your diet at all. You can't live off of just fruits. And you can have pasta and other things maybe once a week without it hurting your dieting. good luck. :) Starches and carbs won't make you gain weight, eating mass quantities of calories will. Try to eat the proper portions of the foods you are scared of. A serving of pasta is 2oz or 3/4 of a cup dry, about a hand full. Starches and carbs also tend to give you a sense of feeling full. The reason they get a bad rap is the quanities that most people eat them in is enormus. And a serving of canned sauce is supposed to be like 2 tablespoons. Fearing processed or high-cal foods is not a bad thing. They are almost all high in saturated fat (the worst kind) and sodium. Stick to the outside walls of the supermarket and the natural, unprocessed foods if your concerned with your diet and health. Only venture into the aisle for spices and toilet paper. You'll be better off. |
