New rider needs advice.?

I'm taking lessons two weeks from now to teach me the basics and everything regarding bikes and they require me to get some boots and gloves. What's the best brand of bike apparel out there? My other question is: If I survive the whole learning experience, what bikes (crotch rocket) should I be considering? I've heard the higher the number the faster it'll go and usually anything around 250 is really light but I'm wanting something that'll go reasonably fast yet still be fairly light, I'm not really sure what I should be looking for. Any suggestions on what I should take a look at?

Joe Rocket has awesome apparel...
As for your first bike get a ninja 250, the number is the cc of engine... bigger engine generally means more power, and more weight, thats why the smaller the number (size) the lighter.

The Kawasaki Ninja 250 is a cheap bike, only $3k from the showroom floor, and insurance and gas is NOTHING. They're still reasonably fast for you first 6 months of riding and alot of fun, and they hold their value better than any other bike. If you still have to get a bigger one, check out the Kawasaki 650r.
Kawasaki has a new(for 06) 650 twin. it's lightweight and has a reasonably low seat height for a sport bike
as for clothing , look at the textile jacket and pants. tho not as strong as leather. many brands are more versitile ,and have good wet or dry protection
If you are getting a crotch rocket the best overall bike out is the Suzuki GSX R750... Baaaaad *** bike! Next would be the Honda CBR 600RR, also very very nice bike. Best gear around is Dianese. Very pricey, but worth the money!
Good Luck, and ride safe!

any 600cc is a good starter bike. as far as apparel, as long as its leather, and you like it, it will work.
experienced rider
icon is one of the better brands but also one of the more expensive. as far as what kind of bike to get i would start with a Kawasaki ex500 and then move to a 600cc of choice. the 500 is cheap but still has its kick for someone that is just starting out. good luck the classes.
Get a Suzuki GS500. It will be perfect to learn on
