Do the police laugh at you when you say "Loud Pipes save Lives" as they right you out a few tickets? |
I have a bike also and its quiet. But I do have respect for my neighbors, babys sleeping, and the elderly. But I dont feel the need to show off and get attention by sounding like a boeing 747 at a stop light racking up my pipes. mechanical problem? no your just like a lil kid wanting attention. Its very childish and rude! Real bikers like me know we have to keep it quiet and have respect so one day our kids can ride. You being loud is killing the sport! very simple...keep in mind these are public roads not your personal race track. My point did you buy it to ride? or to listen to? Me I like to ride thats why i buy bikes. I have no machoism to prove with straight pipes by hurting peoples ears and my own. Can you imagine what they say when you go past? um huh I though so... Lets keep the noise at the track where its not illegal...Some places have baned bikes 'this is what happens' when you think your all joe cool with your extra thin steal cheapy exhaust. Dont wreck it for the rest of us. as a biker, i can understand to a point about inattentive cagers drifting over into their lane, but it's a 2 way street, and accidents usually require 2 participants. it's been shown over and over that: cars are much better sound insulated than they used to be, drivers tend to be doing more things to distract themselves; cell phones(#1 reason). and the biggest thing that goes against the 'loud pipes save lives' argument is, the pipes face the wrong way: not facing traffic. another thing about straight pipes, and it's been proven consistently on the dynometer: straight pipes hurt torque, power and performance in the range of typical street riding: 3500 rpm's and lower. the straight pipes dont even wake the motor up until the rpm's are in the 4000 and up range. their actually intended for full throttle applications like racing, and just how often do regular street riders even break the 4000 rpm 'barrier'? i dont even go over 3500 rpm at 65, and my bike is all stock. i've been hearing that alot of places are cracking down hard on bikes with modified exhaust. close to where i live, there's a few towns that strictly enforces the noise ordanances, and 1 bro that rides got tagged a couple yrs ago for having straight pipes. i hear that daytona beach is going to be hardcore on too loud of pipes soon enough. only thing that will keep a bike and a cage from tangling is if the rider pays attention and actually uses his eyes. seems that there's alot of riders that put too much faith in loud pipes. loud pipes isnt gonna make the bike swerve, and their not going to put the brakes on either. i dont rely on loud pipes, and i dont rely on 'dumb luck'...eventually, 'luck' runs out. no rider should be on the road if they cant keep their head on a swivel, be able to accurately track 'targets' in a 360 degree arc, and accept the fact that they have to keep 1 step ahead of the cagers to survive the ride. LOUD PIPES=LOSE RIGHTS I personally get a chubby when I hear a Harley ride by with straight pipes but that's me. Which side do you want me to argue? I was passing a truck and he started coming into my lane. I hit the throttle and he looked in the mirror and saw me and moved back over. so YES, LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES! On the other hand, I agree, too many of my fellow riders are making a nuisance (wrong place and wrong time). I personally like the sound and yes, its fun! Let's educate our fellow riders AND THE PUBLIC so that its not ruined for our kids. 2005 FATBOY with medium-loud pipes. You crave attention worse that the loud pipe people. Which is worse, loud pipe or loud mouth? When you get two or more cops together they laugh at several things....the dumb things we say when we get pulled over, your civil rights they violated and you didn't know it, and the thing they "made-up" to have an excuse to pull you over for in the first place. My bro-in-law is a cop....witnessed these conversations first hand! Loud pipes suck...they DO NOT save lives, and are simply ways for inadequate guys to compensate for what mom nature didn't give them! Honey, a "real biker" wouldn't feel the need to call him/herself that because they'd know that loudness or quietness of pipes doesn't a 'real biker' make. Just like someone bragging about their sexual prowess...if they really had any, they wouldn't have to brag about it. I'd much rather be heard and annoy someone for a few seconds, than get run off the road by someone who didn't know I was there because they couldn't see or hear me. To each their own...your preference for quiet doesn't make you a better biker or person than those that choose to be heard. |
