Ever beat a traffic ticket? Tell me yours!? |
One of my favorites was when a cop had his bike hidden behind a bus stop on the side walk. This was at the bottom of a hill leading from a Hospital parking lot. The NO TURN ON RED sign is (still) poorly placed at the top of the hill. The 10 or so cars line up waiting for the light and the sign is actually BEHIND them as they wait. Most don't know. The hidden cop popps out on foot and lines you up(5 in my case) emptying his ticket book as he went. Neat scam. I went home, took posterboard and markers and made a "Garage Sale" sign, advertising Toys, Tools and Furnature. Then, I drove back to this place, taped the sign over the NO TURN ON RED and took a Polaroid picture of it. I took a photo of the lined up cars that even showed the bus stop on the curb around the corner and the white front fender of the officer's Harley sticking out. This shows how well hidden he was. He didn't even see ME! I took down the sign and left. When the judge saw this, he dismissed the ticket. My roommate beat a NO TURN ON RED ticket in Ohio because the do not turn sign was in the wrong place. In ohio, it is (was? not sure since this was early 90's) required that the do not turn sign be posted to the right of the far right turn signal. This one was posted between the two lights so as an improperly posted sign it was unenforceable. I know that 5 years later the sign hadn't been moved.... Well bust my buttons! You sure are a clever felon -- Urr, fella"!! i called later that night and ask the cop out for a drink to discuss the reasons why i was innocent..well i admitted to speeding but due to construction delays i was going to have 2 children getting off the bus with noone there and no way for them to get into the house....he took me up on my offer..i bought us 1 drink he ripped the ticket up and that was the last of it..rule of thumb..you never know untill you try.. Tried it once. Coming back from a 250 mile trip with my wife (soon to be ex). Didn't see the cop and he pulled me over for speeding. I figured I had nothing to lose, so when he approached the car and asked for my drivers license, etc, I asked him if I could get out of the vehicle and talk to him in back. While his partner stayed on the passenger side door by my wife, I told the officer, "Officer, I've been driving the past 250 miles with her bitching at me the whole way. I just want to get home so I can get away from her." To which he replied, "Sir, I've got one at home just like her. Just slow down and take it easy." When I was sixteen I got a speeding ticket: 45mph in a 30. I was on a country road at 6:30 AM and this Highway Patrolman stepped out on the road with his Hand up motioning me to stop. I pleaded with him to let me go, but all he did was hand me the ticket. A week or so later my Dad was driving us to the Mountains for a Day of Fishing. He was eating Pretzels and drinking a beer, and steering with his knee. We went around a turn too wide and my Dad's car grazed the fender of another car. My dad stashed the Beer and got out to talk to the other Driver whom I recognized as the trooper and told my Dad who he was."Oh Heck" my Dad said softly. They talked for about 5 minutes or so, and my Dad got in the Car and we left. I asked him what that guy said. He answered: " I'm gonna pay him $250.00 cash for his damage, and he's gonna talk to the judge about dropping your ticket. But how, I asked? "Well Son, he didn't want the Insurance company involved in the deal on the cars." Then my Dad's face lit up and he started to chuckle. "Seems that pretty Lady in the Car with him is not his Wife!" |
