i dont object to anyone using their freedom to roam or walk ,run horse ride bike ride smoke drink anything that gives them pleasure so why do people persecute 4x4 drivers for doing something they enjoy themselves recently i travelled up what used to be a road used as a public path (RUPP) which has been closed by a trafic restriction order (TRO) which the rambling association have been lobbying the government to do for a long time and guess what ....no walker has walked that lane in the past few months because it is totally obscured by foliage and now will never ever see the light of day again because no rambler will ever carry rubbish bags and any cutting tools over 2 miles from the nearest road to keep the growth cut back so walkers can use it? ..are you one of those people? ok my car and many others may have created ruts but the lane was always walkable and kept open by the passing of vehicles which contributed to the cutting back of the foliage ...but now this lane ceases to exist !
I also use the byways in my Cherokee, for the simple reason that I`m disabled (polio as a child) It`s about the only way that I can get to see the countryside that's "over the hill and out of sight". I came across some "ramblers" of the more fanatical variety and they tried to stop me using a well known byway. One of them was proudly boasting that I would soon not be able to use it any more as it was being re-classified to a bridleway. I told him that if that was the case the path would cease to exist within a year as the very people that were responsible for the change would do nothing to keep it open. He said that the local authority's would maintain the path..........One year on , the path is effectively blocked by fly-tipped rubbish and overgrowth ! And of course, not a single walker to be seen !!
I think it's appalling, something should be done about it soon.
