Return of the xj600n, choked up and would not accelerate? |
HI, i'm back again with a fresh question. xj600n R reg naked / no fairing. my bike has been parked up for 2 days. Sunday when i had her out it ran a dream from start to finish. Tuesday night i struck her up, choke on, and she was at 2.5k - 3k revs. I did this for 1 minute and then took choke off. she then ticked over at 1.5k revs. i popped my helmet and gloves on and twisted the accelerater now and then to see if she was fluent throught the revs. i jumped on her and popped it into 1st. she went to 600 - 1k revs and felt spluttery. i took her up the road and it moved but i thought she was going to stall. i managed to let her get out round the block twice and i noticed that it struggled to get up to 5k revs and it was like riding a 50cc. the oil light was on at the begining again, but in a previous post i was told this was due to cold oil. it went out as usual and all ok. should i ring my shop where i got it from and get it fixed, or did i choke her up etc. please help Hi the oil light should go out as soon as the engine is started,if it stays on there's a problem. Check the air filter under the seat, is the intake clear? When was the last time you filled it with fuel?has it got petrol in or have you put diesel in by mistake? If this all checks out fine get the shop to have a look at it. GOOD LUCK. I used to have a Divvy. One minute of choke is not enough for a cold start. It takes at least 5-10 minutes of riding for the engine to warm up fully. Cold oil won't affect the oil light as it only measures the oil level, not the pressure, on that bike. It depends on the ambient temp, but the choke is a variable thing and isn't always needed to be fully on to start the bike. Try it at 3/4 and then gradually release it as the engine warms up. Ex Divvy owner As I mentioned in a previous post - Carb icing is common on the XJ600 during cold, damp winter weather and your symptoms are textbook. Due to the latent heat of evaporation, carb icing can theoretically occur at up to 25 degrees C, however the divvy is fine above maybe 10 degrees. I'm a Yamaha M/C technician |
