Whats the best commuting bicycle light on the market?

Whats the best commuting bicycle light on the market?

It depends on your budget, riding time & riding speed.

I have a Cateye Opticube ($30-40) that runs off AAA batteries and has 3 LED's that go for 24+ hours. The light is one of the brightest in its class from what I've seen & tried. It might have a range of 10 feet. It is one of the few cheap lights that allow left & right adjustments. My handlebars are at a rearward angle so without the feature I would be lighting up anything but in front of me.

Next best is a Halogen. I have a 10watt Niterider Headtrip ($110) that runs off a rechargeable battery and goes for 2hours 20 minutes. You can go pretty fast with this setup. I'd recommend this as being the greatest light/cost setup.

Finally, the best light is HID. I'm running the NiteRider Enduro, which is $300 at Performance Bike. It is as bright as a car headlight, runs off rechargeable batteries, and goes for 4 hours.

Why do I have 3 lights? I go deep into the mountains on night mountain bike rides. The HID is mounted on my handlebars, the Halogen goes on my helmet, and the Cateye is a backup.
'dawes' are the best bicycles to buy.
I would hesitate to recommend a particluar light, unless ~I knew the sort of distances involved/rechargable or disposable batteries.

NiteRider lights are the best on the market. If you are looking for a cheaper light, I like my Serfas light. It is small, however, and I don't think it makes me that visible unless I set it to the blinking mode. The NiteRider light is rechargeable, so you just have to plug it in once you get home from a ride. If you have a seat pack, you can keep an extra light in there depending on how long you'll be riding. The NiteRider light has a rubber ring which stretches around your handlebars to keep it in place which is better than a lot of the other lights which operate with an adjustable harness that doesn't really stay on too well. The rubber rings are easier to replace through a bike shop than the adjustable harnesses if you ever lose, damage, or break one.
I found cateye lights have dodgy brackets and the light will eventually jump from your bars and hit the deck with no warning whatsoever usually smashing it to smithereens and i would say they only give out a reasonable amount of light.
Im saving for a Di notte front light which is about 拢150 and has amazing light spread and runs on aaa batteries.
For a decent rechargeable light with gd run times then your looking at 拢50 upwards and standard battery ones from a few quid upwards.Evans and most shops have them in store for you to switch on and try out but its pointless as all there lights are still on.
Gd luck
Just checkout www.batteryspace.com and you'll find some pretty good lights and a great choice of nimh, lion battery-packs
