What's a good bicycle for around $200? |
I'm looking for a good bike for around $200-250. I want something that's lightweight and fast like a road bike, but that can also handle some roughness like loose gravel and bumpy muddy tracks. I had no idea my bike sucked until I rode my friend's and girlfriend's bikes. Their bicycles are super light and are way easy to pedal. My old one weighs a ton and takes a lot of effort to move. You are very limited in that price range. I would recommend checking Craigslist for a higher quality used bike. Try a search for "cyclocross" bikes- they have many characteristics of a road bike, but with heavy duty wheels, tires and brakes. It's also possible to fit them up with narrow road tires, if you want a smoother quicker ride. Additionally, many of them have "safety" brake levers on the tops- more commonly referred to as "frog legs". Ebay my man... for good new and used bikes. Even if you don't buy there you will learn a lot about what is avilable in your price range. You don't want a road bike from what you said. I'd recommend a light hard tail mountain bike. If you replace the knobbies with 1.5 wide street tires it'll go fast and do trails. Keep the knobbies and put em back on to mountain bike if you want to. I would definitely start combing the classified lists looking for a cyclocross bike. you can't buy a 'good' new bike at that price, but may be able to find a used bike. cheers You can't get what you are looking for at that price.
