Medical Help please? |
My husband was involved in a accident yesterday. He was on a bicycle and a big truck hit him. He was thrown off his bike and landed on the ground on his back, he was wearing backpack so the backpack softened his fall at least for the back part...but his head was snapped back to the ground then bounced back off the ground. He was not able to get to his feet at that time. He tried 3 or 4 times to get to his feet but he couldn't get his body to cooperate with him. At the hospital they took xrays of his spine and it was ok. They did no other tests, no ct scan, or nothing...They didn't even check his pupils. They gave him two tylenols and sent him home. Since the accident he has had headaches, neck pain, sensitivity to light and drowsiness. Is there anything at all that I should be concerned about? Is there anything, test wise or otherwise I need to have done or checked out? the sensitivity to light and drowsiness could signal a problem...call your MD or go to the ER. Could be a simple concussion with head/neck muscle soreness that is not serious, to a more serious bleeding issue inside his head... I would ask for a CT scan with those symptoms.... Can he easily move his fingers, toes, feet, etc? If his pain is severe I would take him back, if not give him time to heal and use common sense as to if you should take him back to the doctor. Good Luck! Sounds verymuch like a cuncussion. Since they X-rayedhis spine,I doubt there ismuch toworry about paralysis. However,did they X-ray his head? Did you notice if his pupils were uneven? Does he know who he is,who you are,what happened etc? Is his speech slurred? Any of these happen,take him backto the ER immediately or call 911. Speaking of, did you take him to the hospital yourself or was an ambulance called? I am assuming no ambulance,because a basic EMT wouldknow to check these things. I will also assume that that the police were notified and you have the name and insurance of the person who hit him. You may need it. Here's hoping for the best for him. I am an EMT. |
