SUZUKI GS500E SLINGSHOT - a good buy? |
Any opinions on this bike? I want a light manouverable bike with good acceleration but don't need top speed more than 80mph ish Had one myself..quick enough to see off most cars up to the ton, max speed about 110 or so, 80 cruising is no problem, got about 50mpg. Found the handling to be very good and it was also good at commuting in heavy traffic, being an easy bike to filter through the lanes of cars as its pretty slim...it was a simple bike to maintain myself and they have a reputation for reliabilty, mine never went wrong ..On the bad side, suzi have skimped on the paint, its a bit thin in places and I would have liked a bit more low end power which is much more useful in traffic, as it needed to be revved hard to get decent power.. ..theres loads of stuff on the internet about them if you want to mod it and as so many have been sold, its not too difficult to find parts at the breakers. I kept the suzi for a long time after I bought a ZX6 having managed to persuade the wife that I needed a spare bike and still enjoyed taking her out, it being quite different to ride than the ZX ....kawasakis ER5 and hondas CB500 are the nearest match and I would say although they are newer and maybe have more powerful engines, theyre more expensive to buy and more difficult to look after yourself Buy a Honda. Ride Red! It's a good basic starter bike, or a good bike for local cruising around. In th elong run a Honda is a better bike but the Suzuki is fine. What?! You don't want to do over 80! That's the beauty of Suzuki, you gotta do 100 every where you go! Get a helmet that matches the bike too. Good choice. It's one of the better middleweight commuter type bikes. They're cheap to run and insure and have enough performance to give you a grin. A preferred choice of many courier companies, so they must be good! The Vauxhall Vectra of the bike world. Alan I have never heard of any problems nor any complaints. My coworkers has one and rides it everywhere and loves it. I'm glad Suzuki improved the looks of their GS550. buy it |
