Is 30 minutes of biking enough to make a difference? |
I've recently started biking to work, which is about 5 miles each way. It takes me about 30 minutes to get there, depending on whether I make the lights, etc. My question is- is 30 minutes of biking (albeit twice a day) even enough to make a difference, health wise? Or do you need a prolonged ride to really start improving your health? I'm starting to wonder whether or not I'm I'm doing my body any good, or if I'm getting off the bike right when the benefits would be kicking in (i.e. after 30 minutes), etc. Little help? Every bit of exercise helps. Quitting never helps. I would up it to at least 3 times a week and make sure that you can't complete an entire sentence about 10 minutes into your workout. A full 20 minutes of exercise in your Target Heartrate will make a difference. It is important to keep your heartrate up. Don't stop though, it is still a benefit for health. that's a great start...i think an hour would be better.... Not really, unless it is a major uphill grade most of the way. Otherwise, you'll need to suppliment with another type of exercise. I think what your doing is great. My doctor said 30 minutes a day....and you're doing it twice a day. Keep it up! Every bit of exercise can help and make a difference. Of course it's better than no exercise! However, what you really want to pay attention to, isn't the time spent necessarily, you want to go by how many calories burned during that period of time. |
