What is a good first motorcycle for a person who is 5'2" and 100lbs? |
I am interested in getting a bike sometime. I don't want to spend a whole lot on my first bike and I am very light so I also need something I can handle. No dirtbikes though! The Honda rebel 250 and the Yamaha Exciter 250 are both excellent beginner bikes for someone of your stature. Either one can be purchased for around $1000 and will give you the experience you need before moving up to a bigger more expensive ride. I have one friend that is 5'2" and about 120lbs, that loves the rebels so much after she got some experience on an older one she went out last year and bought a new rebel. She sold the old rebel to another friend of mine who is 5 foot even and maybe 100 lbs. and she loves it. I also have another friend who is alittle taller but still light in weight who was nervous about the size of a rebel and she bought a SunL 50 which she loved at first but now realizes it is too small for her. My sister who is 5'2" started out on a Harley 883 and she would not trade it for the world. However you have to remember we were raised around bikes so although she has never ridden one herself she has spent many hours and many miles on them. My advice is to shop around at dealers and sit a few to see how they feel. Then after you find one or two that you like actively shop for a top quality used one. You can ask the dealers, often if they don't have one they might know someone that does who is looking to sell it so they can up grade. What ever you do don't get in a hurry, take your time and be sure so you do not end up like my friend with the SunL. Source(s): Just an old biker. Suzuki makes several small street bikes in the crotch rocket style if you like that sort. But other wise Honda makes a nice small one I believe its called a reble or just go for the honda shadow its a 650 but is very low and a new one is arround 5000 if you go for last years model, and would be a great bike for you to learn on and ride for a long time. I have Owned a couple of them over the years. How about an enduro? In the 200cc range. stay away from crotch rockets and dual sport bikes. those are the only kind some tall folks can ride. You sound like the perfect candidate for a Honda 250cc Rebel. The Rebel is one of the bikes they use to teach the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) beginner rider course, and it is a really nice sized bike for a lightweight rider. The best thing about the Rebel is that there are hundreds of used ones out there, and you can find many of them for sale for less than $2000. You can buy one, spend a season riding it until you're ready for a bigger bike, and then sell it again for almost what you paid for it! Do invest some time and the little bit of money it will cost you to attend a MSF beginner rider course. This course is required in several states before you can get your motorcycle operators license, and it will teach you the basics of safe motorcycle operation. You can use this web site to find a course being taught near where you live. Sign up soon as class sizes are limited and they fill up quickly. Good luck and Ride Safe! http://www.msf-usa.org |
