What factors distinguish a good motorcycle stand and a cheap one? What are some of the top brands? |
I am new to motorcycling and thinking of purchasing a motorcycle stand to do general maintenance on my bike. If anybody can shed a light on how to shop for a good stand I would appreciate it. pricewise, how much is too much and how much is too little? also, name of good reputable manufacterers would be nice It depends on what you want the stand to do. There are stands that just lift up the rear wheel, or just the front wheel, or placed under the frame to lift both wheels off the ground (I'd stay away from those unless you have a dirt bike - makes the bike very tipsy). Then there are full motorcycle lifts that raise the entire motorcycle up about 3 ft. - can cost between $300-$600. If you're only planing on changing oil and tires every once in a while, I'd recommend a F wheel & R wheel stand. Take a look at the different styles. Lifts - http://www.klsupply.com/ Stands - click street, search stands - http://www.parts-unlimited.com/... well it kinda depends on what bike you have,a lot of stands will work on most bikes, unless you have a harley dyna, then things change,if you want to know from the pro's,go to jpcycles.com,start a new account(it's free),or you can click on rider forums at the top of the page, tech talk is for harley riders, then they have a metric talk to,if you have a jap bike, but the people there know there stuff, look at the site, you'll be at home there! ruffcab69 on the tech talk forum thats me. Well, if you want to spend as little as possible, get a cheap one, works? ok, no problem....Doesnt work? get teh better one. Which one to buy? go to a local dealer and ask. They would know for your model bike. |
