2001 Yamaha R6 charging problem? |
My sons bike has a charging problem. We thought it was the battery and changed it. But that wasn't it. Is there common problem with any other components of the charging sysyem? I don't know much about bikes, but could it be the stater or a loose wire? The bike will run for a while and then dies, and right befor it die the lights and gauges go out. Thanks in advance for any ideas. I had real problems w/battiers for awile with my bike. I finnally found out that a Bike battery is not anywhere near as durable as a car battery is. If you leave a brand new Battery on a bike for week it will be dead or close to it when you try to start it. And if a bike battery goes all the way dead its almost impossible to get to full charge again. So what you wanna do is start fresh. Pay another 100 bucks and get the Yuasa sealed battery for the R6. Then what you wanna do is buy a BatteryTender. That is the exact name on the device. It will charge your battery and keep it at a float charge for you until your are ready to ride it agian. It will save the life or your battery and will keep you on the road. It goes for 60 buks and is awesome. One of the Best Investments you can make for you bike. Just search BatteryTender on yahoo and you can buy it online for cheaper. Source(s): Honda Rc51 w/ a BatteryTender plus. I had the exact problem with my bike, and it turned out that the replacement battery was also a dud. Check that out before looking else where. check the charging voltage across the battery terminals with the bike running in neutral at about 5,000 rpms. Should be about 14.2v If it's much more it's regulator/rectifier if it's much less it's your stator. If it's close to 14v (like between 13v and 15v) it's your battery or a loose connection. |
