Crank no ignition? |
i drive a honda cm125 four stroke.yesterday, my bike wouldnt start, it just clicked under the seat, and the engine wouldn't crank.but it would kick start and jump start fine-i still drove fine. the lights and horn worked. today, i reconnected the battery with lots of WD40, and it worked fine- started like a dream, but 10miles later, the bike died, and refused to start. it wouldn't even kick start, and the engine cranks, but thats it. it didn't just stall, there was a loss of power- i noticed it slowing down- and then slowly came to a halt. but lights, horn, etc work. it has a full fuel tank, which makes no difference in either full or reserve. the KILL switch is in the RUN position, and there is a frsh spark plug- although the spark looks weak- not a fat blue one, but kinda yellow... gradual loss of power suggests a more mechanical fault than electrical, electrical faults tend to just stop dead. is it getting fuel to the cyl? other than this you might have to delve into the ignition. maybe the points have got wd40 in them or something? faulty coil or mag (i dont know which you'll have) charlie I think you have to replace the whole battery. OK The probelm with guessing whats wrong and replacing bits here and there is it gets a bit expensive for you. Lets face it you don't want to replace something that had nothing wrong with it in the first place and had nothing to do with this fault I have had many years in the motor repair trade and had many motorcycles over the years and I can only advise that you have a professional check it out and give you a firm and as close as possible estimate. This will undoubtedly cost you money but it's you that will have to balance the professional cost against the costs involved in guessing the wrong parts. From what you describe I think that the battery is going dead and cutting out the engine now replacing the battery "might" cure all but if there is a fault within the charging system then the new battery may also go flat. You see my point to cure that base cause is fundamental in getting it right Try to find a good reliable independant repairer recommended to you from a friend or collegue and good luck with it Are you sure your battery isn't duff? It sounds like it might be done. Try putting it on charge overnight and see what happens. If the battery is 12v you could try starting it off jump leads. If this does the trick then it is the battery at fault. Sounds like a diode has failed disallowing your battery to charge properly.Check all fuses and ground cable to frame for good contact. You should have a certified M/C technician check it out. X Yamaha Tech. If your battery is holding a full charge and the bikes start motor works, but it wont start... and the lights dont work, then it sounds like either a fuse or an electrical fault somewhere. If the battery was weak, poorly connected or not holding charge.. then it wouldnt even turn the starter motor, it would be clicking at the solinoid(like you mentioned in your question). I would check your conections and srpay WD40 in them to clean the conectors. If there is any switches like, sidestand switch, clutch switch, and a 3-pin diode (all these parts are in the safety cut-out circuit).. make sure none of these are faulty. If the battery is old, or in poor health then i would recomend buying a new one. |
