Well pressure tank-no pressure, trickle from faucets?

Yesterday, it rained like crazy (North East, MD), the basement flooded a little because my husband never put in the new sump pump. I tried to plug the old one in to see if it would work a little bit, but the outlet popped/sparked the lights went out/ and the electricity blew, and the breaker tripped. I don't think the well pressure tank is on the same ....the well pressure tank has it's own breaker. Anyway, right after that, the water pressure in the house went to nothing. What can I do? If the well pressure tank is tied to the same breaker as the old sump pump (we put a new sump pump in today) could it have damaged the well pressure tank when I tried to plug in the old sump pump? The well is not dry, I am sure. The pressure gauge reads about 10. Should I try to empty all of the water from the well pressure tank or push that thing in on top (looks like the end tip to a bike tire pump) and get any air out? the tank is a wellrite thanks if you can help

do not do nothing to tank...tank will not be the problem....check switch if there is a handle on side of switch you may need to lift this up and hold up until pump builds up pressure and keeps running on its own....this type switch is normally always used on submersible pumps it is called a low pressure cutoff switch...its purpose is,if for any reason the pump system loses pressure you must manually restart it...this would cause problem you are mentioning.....otherwise it will be a breaker problem.....one thing to remerber you can have either a 110 volt submersible pump or a 220 volt submersible pump depending on what voltage pump was originally installed....if it was a 110 volt pump it is highly possible it was on same breaker with sump pump circuit... you can mess with the top of the pressure tank valve stem give it a little push if water comes out you are in need of a new pressure tank good luck
Not enough information is given to answer your question.I don't know if your house was professionally wired or if the wiring was jury rigged.

1.Usually a sump pump runs on 115 volts and normally has its own circuit breaker.
2. Electric power does not go to your pressure tank but to the pump. The pump may be down inside the well in which case it is called a submersible pump. If your well is a shallow well, you will have the pump located in your basement.
3. Submersible pumps are normally 208 volts on their own circuit. If you have a shallow well pump it may run on 115 volts and could be on the same circuit as your sump pump.
4. You need to get someone with electrical experience to troubleshoot your electrical system to determine the problem.
5. You need to be careful around water and electricity, they are a deadly mix, you could be electrocuted.
6. I doubt that you damaged anything, probably a breaker needs to be reset. Check all breakers in your panel to make sure they are all turned on. Certain breakers, if they are tripped, require that you turn the breaker fully off and then on. If you just go from the tripped position to on, they will not turn on, you must go full off and then on.
7. Your tank has a diaphragm inside, the valve you see on top is to add air. You should not do anything with this valve. This is not your problem.
Do'nt push the valve on top of the tank!!!
If you already have, use an air compressor & pump it back up to 30PSI.
Sounds like something happened to your pressure switch. That's the switch that turns the well pump on & off to maintain a mean water pressure.
Check all of the breakers in your panel box. Do'nt just look at them, physically check them. If any of them feel "spongy" or seem to be set between On & Off, switch it to the Off position First, then On.
If you're still having problems, you may want to call a professional as it gets a little tricky after that if you do'nt have the right equipment or training to diagnose the problem.
I doubt that any circuts are being shared with the well pump circut, but I ca'nt say for sure.
If you can get it going by DIY, maybe you should call someone in just to be safe about things.
Hope this helped you, good luck!!
