I have an 05 gixxer 600 and when i start it it sounds like it wants to turn off, but then it idols down? |
when it idols down it kind of sputters like it wants to cut off. i was riding the other night and i was in traffic and the bike temperature was going up(around 220) and all of a sudden the bike cut off. It started back up but seem to still want to do the same when i came to a light and sat there for a minute. Lately when i start it I sometimes have to try twice to get it started( this is when it is cold). I am from florida so it is not like it gets cold here. Any idea of what the problem might be? I purchased this bike used from a private seller about four months ago. ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS WELCOME. First, starting a bike when cold even in Florida, the bike has to warm up just like when you get up in the morning you have to get your blood moving. Also the bike running at 220 degrees is not overheating. Secondly if the bike is wanting to stall at a light you might want to check a couple of things.. One: You might want to find out if the bike has ever been wrecked. If it has chances are there is a turnover switch that needs to be reset. Your manual will explain. This is probably something that you would have to take it to a shop to fix. Two: A more common problem. There is a switch at your kickstand that when in gear if the kickstand is put down the bike will shut off. That switch can go bad causing the bike to shut off going down the road or in your case sputter like it is going to shut off. Great way to test this. Next time the bike acts like this at a light put it in nuetral and see if it evens out. Third: You could have trash in you gas tank or lines Fourth: What kind of gas are you using. Anything below 93 octane will not allow the bike to run smooth I hope this helps you Check the idle speed. My bike was doing the same thing and I had to bring my idle speed up to 1150rpm (from approx 850rpm). Check your service manual as this is a common adjustment. |
