My 06 Sportster 1200 Custom is leaking oil from the crankcase and oil tank when I ride...what can I do ? |
My bike, is spitting the oil out of the oil cap, dripping onto the oil tank.. Also when I park I find a puddle just under the crank case...the air filter doesnt look to be splattered with any blow by, as the external parts do not have any oil residue. I am gonna replace the gasket on the oil dipstick, but I am not sure what to do about the crank case.. The oil is just over 3 qts and is not overfilled. A light light smoke comes from the dipstick area when I get on the throttle..any advice would help! thank you Isn't this bike under warranty? Bring it back to your dealer!!! Harleys are notorious for leaking... You need to just start replacing gaskets.... Harleys are beautiful! And what sound! But high maint. Well not being a smart *** but IT IS A HARLEY. I have been riding bikes all my life both a harley and jap bikes and I never saw a harley that dident leak oil. My advice GET RID OF IT> Dons Auto Service I would also try changing the gasket on the crank case also, but a Harley wouldn't be a Harley without a few drops of oil! also, try checking the torque on the crankcase bolts,Harley's are know en for vibration Who changed the oil last? You or dealer? Sounds like if not overfilled then you have a venting issue in the crankcase. I'd start there if not overfilled. |
