Cause of low heart rate, with PVC when heart beat < 52? |
I am a middle age male adult that has lost 40 lbs since Jan 1 (I am now in great shape and well within my normal weight, maybe a little low) I have improved my cardio to ride a bike for 20 plus miles, jog 3 miles, lift weights etc.. 2 to 4 times a week. Lately I have had strong PVC (diagnosed about 5 years ago, more scary than anything), shortness of breath and light headed (no pain other than the hollow feeling in the chest from the PVC) symptoms. Strong enough to slow me down at whatever I am doing. I have noticed they come on when my heart rate is below 50 (48-52 bpm), once the heart rate is back up to around 60, they disappear (all the symptoms). Any idea what is going on? Happens mostly at night, can wake me up from sleep, or in the morning. Healthy otherwise. Try WebMD, wrong diagnosis etc... for more information. Yahoo answers is more for general questions, nothing that really demands a professional opinion. check with medical profesional. dont trust people on yahoo answers. if i helped please choose me as best answer. I agree with the guy above me. Yahoo Answers is not the best place to get medical information. This is your life. See a doctor. meaning, Yes, by all means, get thee to a doctor. PVCs can be benign and mean nothing except a momentary inconvenience. But not always, and especially as we enter middle age that which was benign can turn serious. But you mention a low heart rate, part of which is no doubt due to your fitness level, but still, your heart really ought not to be doing this quite so often I would think. Slowing down that much and having that many PVCs? H'm. Worth a medical opinion, I believe. The part that concerns me most is that they come on when your heart rate drops. That could be a sign of a weak sinus node, a condition that you would want to watch out for and possibly even correct very soon. There are also several other possibilities, from high blood presure to mitral valve prolapse to low potassium levels to a heart attack. There's no way to tell without an EKG while it is happening. So talk to your doctor about this. A noticeable arrhythmia can be a very serious matter. |
