Can I get some info on the Yamaha V Star 650 Classic?

I am pretty much decided on purchasing the aforementioned bike. I love the feel, size and balance of power for a first motorcycle. The only questions I have are about highway cruising performance, any mechanical upkeep issues, and how to know when to get gas when there is no fuel gage (only a warning light right?). Thanks!

I have a 2007 650 custom and i love it. People think its more than it really is, but to girls well its all the same lol. I had a 750 Spirit and I like the 650 Yamaha a whole lot better. Get a windshield if your going to do some hard highway riding. I ride a few hundred miles from college to home and without the windshield youll get exhausted. The bike handled great on the highway h/e. The bike gets around 45 to 50 on the highway doing 70mph. So usually expect to get around 130-150 miles before you run out on the main tank. you get another gallon in reserve so as long as theres a gas station 40 miles or less ahead youll be fine. One of the first signs of running out of gas is that the acceleration will start to just evaporate so if your on the highway pull over then and not when it dies off completely Good luck and always wear a helmet.
yamaha is always reliable, for sporty racing atvs & bikes. the yamaha cruisers lack some power after riding a few hundred miles. its a great bike but u may not b able to keep up with other bikes well yea u can, yamaha is great overall, if u like it get it
