Bicycle making sounds?

anyone know why this is happening? the bike is not a 100 dollar bike from walmart.
when i bike normally, and im not doing drops or even going off a curb, it doesn't make any sounds. but as soon as i go off a curb or a drop, the front of the bike starts to make a ringing sound. and it isn't just when i hit the drop, after the drop, when i go on grass or small bumpy places, the front of my bike makes the ringing noise every bump i go into. sounds like it's coming from my mech disc brakes, but i have checked the bolts and everything, nothing was loose. could this be my fork? i have set the preload to the lowest because im a fairly light guy. could that be why its making the sound?

My guess is that it is chain slap... your chain is probably a bit too long. Here's how to check:

Place the bike in the small gears, front and back.
1) If the chain looks like it is hanging at the bottom the chain is waaay too long;
2)Push down on the lower part of the chain. There should be a slight bit of resistance placed on the chain by the rear derailleur... pushing down on the chain should make the derailleur cage move a bit.

If either of these things present themselves you'll either need a new chain or have the existing one shortened. Source(s): 27 years in the industry
check the front suspension drop outs or if it is a QR 20 fork and hub and it is not quick release so tighten it a little, if it is quick release so open it make it a little tighter and close it, if the sounds continue go to the shop you got the bike from
i would think that it's because of the suspension. put it back to where it was and try it
Without hearing it, the problem could be a number of things. It might be as bad as a crack or stress fracture near the headtube, a loose headset, a fork problem, or even an issue with the front wheel.

For the fork, you can check and adjust compression and rebound settings. Also check the oil level. If it is a coil spring fork, remove the coil and cycle the fork through the travel to see if you hear or feel anything. I don't think the preload will cause a ringing. That only sets initial pressure on the fork. If it is the fork it will be due to the sliders, bushings, or cartridge used for compression/rebound/ damping etc.

For the frame wash it first. Dirt hides cracks or other problems. Once its clean do a visual inspection near the headtube. Hairline cracks are sometimes hard to find, but are usually on the top or downtube. If you like to go off drops and jumps a lot you may have one that you don't know about.

Check the headset. Rotate the handlebars and see if it turns freely with no clicks or notches, and of course no noise. Tighten the headset if at all possible or if it needs it.

The wheel is easiest because if you had a crack in the rim, a loose spoke, or other issue the wheel would wobble or be out of true.

Disc brakes will squeal or you will hear a rubbing noise if not adjusted properly. They typically do not ring or make a ringing noise.

And if you can't find it, take it to a local shop and the mechanic will be able to find it.
