If you cover your pumpkin with oil will it not be dangerous? |
Recently on here, the question of how long a pumkin can last was asked. Several responded suggesting covering the pumkin with vegetable oil or petroleum products. Since not everyone uses bicycle flashlights to light their pumpkins and the traditional manner is a small candle, is this not dangerous advice to put out there without any caveates? What non-flamable substance could you use? Thanks. no, you should use a rag to rub the oil on the pumpkin. it will make it shine and it will not burn. It is not good to lubricate your pumpkin. It should last until Halloween; how many times have you seen a rotten pumpkin before then? dont use peroleum based oil...use vegi. oil...or olive oil....then its ok.... good luck Vegetable oil and petroleum jelly (ie- vaseline) are not flammable, but stay away from actual petrol-based products. Whatever you use, just rub on a thin layer to provide a barrier between the pumpkin "flesh" and the air. You only have to apply it on the inside and anywhere you removed the rind (like inside the eyeholes). |
