Whats wrong with my minivan? |
i have a 2000 toyota sienna and was having issues with it on my way home yesterday. the check engine light started flashing and the engine began to sputter a lot. when i hit traffic, the engine would stall if i just let it sit so i had to keep the rpms up. i had to floor it just to get away from a traffic light and it accelerated slower than a bicycle. after that, i began to hear a distinct *put* every few seconds. what could it be and is it easily replaceable? im trying to spare my dad an expansive mechanics bill. When is the last time you checked your oil? You will blow a rod or the engine will seize if you continue to drive it... It could be lack of fuel, your ejectors could be clogged, add ejector cleaner...fuel filter could have debri or the fuel pump. Do not continue to drive it until you find what the problem is...you should have it checked on a diagnostic machine at a auto repair. ~good luck~ It sounds like a timing chain or throttle needs replaced. I would take it to a place that gives free estimates. Not it costs a lot because you need a new van, and dump the Toyota try a simple tune up its 7 yrs old...im with neil...ever tune it?? free scan for ck engine lite at advance or like.....sounds like an electrical problem....plugs,wires,,,,,, if the check engine light is flashing your car needs immediate attention. check the oil and coolant if both are full then it could be as simple as water in the fuel or as expensive as a plugged converter in the exhuast. If you can safely get it to an auto zone or similar place have them pull the codes and see what they are. if not take it to a good shop and pay them to put it on the machine and provide you with a written estimate for repair |
