Why Mormoms use bycicles as a way of transportation? |
I am not making fun of them. Yesterday while I was waiting for the green light in traffic two Mormons passed in front of me in their bicycles and they brought a smile to my face. Why don't they use a comfortable car? I used to be Mormon before I became Muslim. It is the elders(missionaries) who ride bicycles. Of course, Mormons have no problem using automobiles- they do in Utah. It is just the Mormon way of being distinctive. Partially, as a sort of reminder they are working the missionary field, partially environmental, partially to teach humility- all these things and more. I have heard of missionaries who are in different countries where bicycle traffic is impractical for their missionary work to use cars. they have no moneis given to them - even the bicycles are donated. tthey rely on the kindness of strangers and their fellow mormons to take them in on their road of preaching. I think bicycle riding is independent of religious beliefs. i bet if those two riders were devil worshipers or vicunas they would till be tooling along on their bikes. It is one thing you can't blame the Mormons for even if you are inclined to. They're in their mission year. They try to deny "modern" devices during this time. Never mind that everything from their magic underwear to the bicycle helmet is a modern contrivance. They are not issued cars and how dare them work for one. I don't know, but it sure is eco-friendly! Good for them. They tried that and had a lot of trouble. They are all kids and like any kids got a little out of hand.. Bicycles are safer for them.. |
