To all motorcycle owners...Salvaged title?

I was thinking about getting a motorcycle. Beyond the fact that the motorcycle has been rebuilt, is there really any difference between a salvaged motorcycle and one that has not been rebuilt as far as riding goes?

I figure I'd be less worried dropping the bike if it wasn't new. Also, is there any difference in the insurance coverage?

Thanks

Make sure that the frame is straight first off. If the work was done correctly, you wouldn't know the difference in riding, but the frame must be straight. It is a better idea to get a used bike when starting out.

As far as insurance goes, you wouldn't have any trouble getting liability, but they probably wouldn't insure it for collision/comprehensive, which you don't need on a used bike anyway.

You may not be able to get it registered or insured on a salvage title. Research this before you buy it. Also, the forks or the frame may not be straight, even though they look fine. That could cause a lot of problems. There are plenty of used, cheap bike out there without being a salvage bikes.

Some states may not register it. Some insurances may not insure it. The value may be as much as 50% less than a non salvage bike. And can you trust you life with whoever fixed it. You dont know if the frame, forks ect have been fixed correctly. I would pass Its just not worth it to me.

There is a good chance that you cannot get it registered for street use with a salvage title. Some insurance companies will not insure it at all, and no one will finance it.

salvage titles typically don't allow for full coverage...

aside from that, go for it...
