Can a driver without a motorcycle license, insure a motorcycle?

To be more specific, here is the story. I am a 20 year old male from Illinois and getting motorcycle. Insurance is something I dont want my name in, well I want to be a second driver. The question is can the insurance be written to my dad, who does not have a motorcycle license. He does have a regular license. I know that second drivers are insured. So I would be paying less money for insurance, but I would be able to drive my bike. My dad will be getting a license, but first needs a motorcycle. So again can he get insurance on this motorcycle without a license?

I did take the MSF course. Also the motorcycle needs to be insured for the road, so my dad can take the test at the DMV and I can drive around. Thanks all!

Illinois law on mandatory insurance starts with the titled/registered owner and doesn't get much into drivers license status. 'Owner' gets insurance for vehicle, allowed drivers then drive/ride. Drivers License status is secondary. Training/learners permit license status is well known and covered.

YES. I've owned my bikes(2 total) since 1999 in both New York and Nevada. I've always had insurance in my name and never had a motorcyle license. Its that simple.

Call an insurance company and ask

I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure you can, When I got covered, the insurance company didn't ask if I had an endorsement on my license, I don't think they care as long as they get their money.

1) a motorcycle license is not hard to get

2) when I got my first bike not so long ago, it was on my parent's policy, if that's what your asking, it didn't have my name on the card, but I was covered on the policy under them.
oh, and my dad hates, and I mean HATES motorcycles, he doesn't have a license.

TAKE THE CLASS, don't be stupid, it's well worth it!... oh well ... GOOD FOR YOU.. then,

Just a guess but I'll assume you can insure it for theft, fire, etc., you just can't insure it for the road without a licence.
