Motorcyle license?

Do you need a motorcycle license in order to get insurance for a bike in UT? If not, what's the point of getting the license?

Dunno about your insurance question but riding a bike without a motorcycle endorsement is no different than driving a car without a license. It is illegal.

not quite true, it's not nearly as harsh a punishment, but riding without your M is illegal in all states, but it is possible, to get covered without it.

No you don't have a license to have insurance. But you do need a license to ride. If your riding without an "M" class. in your lic. and you get pulled over, the officer has every right to impound your bike. I wouldn't risk it if I were you. It's not hard to get a license.

I live in a different state, and was licensed many years before I got insured.

The point of having a license is to keep your butt out of trouble with the law. If you don't get the license and wind up needing to use that insurance, you'll probably get hammered all the way 'round. Johnny law gets a piece for an additional ticket (at least) and the insurance might not even cover an unlicensed rider. It's a real easy out for them.
