Motor bike insurance to claim or not?

ok my bike was stolen and pretty badly damaged
its a 1994 classic honda fireblade 38000 miles and was in pretty good conditon
in my estimate it would cost over 拢2000 to get it back to how it was like new
or around 拢700 from places like ebay but look like cr ap
or claim on my insurance
but i have 8 years no claims 拢198 tpft
拢450 excess
what would i get if i claimed ?

i think they would write bike of as unrepairable

In the US, my insurance would not go up because they pay out for a stolen vehicle, vandalism or non at fault accidents - only for excessive claims or claim due an at fault accident.

It depends what you can afford to pay out if you and how much the insurance company has valued it at.

Call your insurance company and ask them what they think, that way you get to know what they are willing to do. just get it in writing.

well i have a audi tt with 10 years no claims and i smashed the frot up last year it was like 3thousand for repairs o insurance job.. 拢350 excess my insuranse has only gone up 拢100

don't claim, reduce insurance to 3rd party only, rebuild bike via eBay, lock bike up better next time or get rid and buy a car for the winter if possible. safe riding.

I rekon you have hit the nail on the head when you say that they most likely would not consider it economically viable to repair i.e. write it off.

It's a 14 year old bike and not even book value at 2000 quid. Its been a while since I used the insurance in Britain but if the bike has been recovered will they even cover the damage on it under tpft policy?

As someone suggests ask what effect a claim would have on you financially from the insurance company. Also consider having them write it off and buy it back at a knock down price. It will be listed as damage repairable with the DVLA so you could use the cash that you get from them to do it properly - possibly.

you should get roughly what you insured it for.

The bike would be written off by your insurance. and you wold be paid out
Its up to you, but your not obligated to claim if you think it coudl affect your insurance premium . But i would see how much you would get paid out... what value they give the bike.
