Is there anything I can do after being misled by a motorcycle salesman and paying $3000 more than i was told? |
I was sold a 2007 motorcycle yesterday and while the salesman was explaining the contract to me he made the extra warranty, tire plan, service plan, and theft insurance all sound like it was included in using a special promotion. He never once told me that I was going to be charged any more money but instead continued on even telling me at one point that I could recieve an extra year of warranty for the same price, i even asked him again at that point and he said yes it would not add any more to the cost. Well when i got home i went through the contract i realised that that warranty added 2000 dollars to the total cost along with another 2000 dollars in other items that I was never told would cost anymore. Is there anything I can do? I need these items taken off, it almost doubled the cost of the motorcycle and I was misled and told the were included. I either want them to take the bike back or atleast take the extra 4000+ in charges off and take those out of my financing. Tell the salesman that you want to see him AND his manager in the manager's office, and explain very clearly that you were mislead, and if they don't take it off, you'll go to the local TV station's consumer advocate (every town has one) and start complaining, and if they want to be on TV that's their business. So what will it be? Also write to local BBB and file a complaint. Don't you read things before you sign them? You may be able to get some of the items cancelled. Go to the dealership and tell them what you told us here. No guarantees that it will work, but it's definitely worth a try. This is a common problem while dealing with finance on vehicles. The problem is so big many companies are now recording these conversations. Basically, you can't win this argument in court. It will be your word against theirs. However, the warranty that you bought can most likely be refunded. I sell cars and we refund the warranty at any time if it hasn't been used. Call the dealership and ask your finance person. Bottom line - when you signed the paperwork, you agreed to these numbers. The time to question this is before you sign, not the next day. Not much you can do. Don't just sign a legal document if you didn't read it or don't understand it. Most extended warranties can be cancelled. That is still an option. Consider this a life lesson, when spending thousands of dollars... at lease read the dollar amount before signing the contract. Oh, and you trusted a car salesman? Another life lesson learned. |
