Are there any ways to convince my parents to own a sportbike? |
I know yall have heard this before, but I am a 17 year old about to turn 18 and I'm tryin to convince my parents to own a sportbike. I'm lookin to get a Ninja 250 as my first bike cuz I wanna start out small. I told them I won't even consider owning one until I have a job that pays for the insurance and after I take the MSF course. I've sat down with them and told them the reasons why I want one, such as with me being a college student next year at the local community college, the money I'd save on gas would be incredible. I know driving a sportbike is a bigger risk than driving a car so I understand their concern for their son but if I have this passion for bikes, then why not get familiar with them sooner? Anyone have any pointers out there who has gone through a familiar situation? just do what i did... --Sounds like a good way to get them to give you a car. Is that what you're doing? get a bigger one you can't compare the gas money with your safety. I know your parents don't care about gas money. They are care for your safety. Now you need to take the safety course then wait until you are 18 and buy your own bike. Until your Parent,s stop hearing of sport bike accident,s or seeing guy,s on TV pulling Wheelie,s down the interstate,on,m,or any other bad thing,s about sport bike,s you Loose. you should start learning young. don't give up. Absolutely. tell them this exactly: first the ninja 250 in NOT a sportbike. when they ask you why tell them that the manufacturer lists it as an ex-250 (no r depicting racing) and therefore insurance companies list it as a STANDARD. second the nija 250 is NOT fast. your parents probably own a car that could out accelerate the ninja 0-60 and in a 1/4 mile. if speed is their concern this is the bike the SHOULD like. also this bike is very lightweight, easy to maneuver, 50+mpg, easy maintenance, etc etc etc. if they know you are responsible then tell them you will take all the proper steps and continually learn new safety methods by subscribing to the msf mag and motorcyclist which has monthly safety tips. motorcycles have a negative stigma by those who are afraid of them. i have never had an accident in all of my years riding because i watched my surroundings like a hawk, always had an "out", always looked behind me when coming to a slowdown or stop, always was in a gear that i could accelerate out of a situation if necessary, never rode in a blind spot of another car, rode with my brights on 100%, never was in the fast lane approaching a green light with potential left turners to end my career, used my horn extensively, always signaled and used blinkers, always wore a HELMET, eye protection, PANTS not shorts, leather jacket not t-shirt, boots or sketchers not flip flops, no passengers for 1 year at least, no racing, no wheelies or stoppies. also peripheral vision is your best friend and no lane sharing. if after all of these ideas you still are encountering trouble then your parents will never support the idea no matter what. look, if you really want a motorcycle then the only way you do not have to obey your parents wishes is to move out and pay your own bills. until then you have to listen to them even when they are biased as in this case. but if you present it rationally then you might have a chance... lol i had this problem when i was 17 i buged my dad till he said yes my mum said i will kill myself on a bike er im know 50 and still alive i have 5 sons 2 got bikes and proved thay are good enough to ride by the way when my dad came with me to collect it u guessed it one huge wheelie down the road bikes are in my families blood good luck hope u succeed Spend the extra money and get a car, your life is not worth saving a few bucks on gas. a friend of mein wanted a porsche boxsers but he cudnt afford it petrol so he sat a screamed in the middle of his parents bedroom and he got it |
