Hi, i was just wondering about laws regarding minimotos in uk, ta!?

the thing is, iv just bought a bike and wonderd if i can get done by police if i push it to the field (private land) then ride it there, iv got no licence, mot or insurance, the field is more or less abandoned so not much chance of accident, is there any way i can ride my bike without braking the law? thanx! iv herd that the law is different with minimotos than other bikes, is this a rumor?

You can use it on private land with the permission of the land owner. No permission and it's still illegal .

Pushing it to the field is a dodgy legal area as it's still a vehicle and should have to comply with legal requirements, even if it's being pushed.

Whether you'd get busted for it rather depends on whether you get stopped by the police and what their attitude is to mini-motos. Some forces really have a wasp up their ar5e about them, so will throw the book at you every time.

The law is the same for these things as for any motorcycle.

You can ride it on the public road if you have it registered, taxed, insured and you have a valid driving licence.

You can ride it on private land with the landowner's permission.

Seemed like a good idea,But can lead to a hole heap of trouble. The cops do not like them. If you get caught riding them on a highway or any other place you should not be somethings gonna hit the fan.Always wear a crash helmet.

According to the department of transport the mini-moto are classed as 'motor vehicles' so are required to comply with road traffic and vehicle taxation law. Riding these bikes anywhere but off-road (with permission) is illegal - they can be ridden on private land where permission has been granted by the owner of that land. and it doesn't cause a disturbance. You are not allowed to use them in your garden, parks and housing estates.

It is also against the law to ride them on the pavement and on the road since these bikes are not manufactured in such a way that allows them to meet requirements laid out by European construction requirements - if these were modified to meet those requirements then the above mnetioned ("mini-moto are classed as 'motor vehicles' so are required to comply with road traffic and vehicle taxation law.") would come into play.

If you want to ride your bike legally then perhaps contact your local authority to see if there are any sites that allow the riding of these.

MINIMOTOS ARE DOG POO

As long a they have the applicable trimmings; lights mirrors etc.Usually classed as 'Mopeds', on the public highway. As the majority are under 50cc and are limited to a speed of 50 km/h or less, whether due to design or more artificial limitations e.g. electronic limiter.
