Do you know anything about UK quad bikes? |
I want to get one for use on the road but am unsure about the regualtions surrounding them/ licenses required/ insurance? Any ideas? At the moment I am 21, full no claims (car), no bike license, living in Exeter. Cheers! Some quad bikes are road legal but most are not - check at the time of purchase. If you're buying a road legal one you don't need to worry because it'll already be registered as a roadgoing vehicle. Your car licence should be fine - you'll need insurance which could be tricky because the insurance companies don't like to insure anything that's unusuall but there should be specalists out there. you don't need a special licence as it has four wheels and is classed on a normal licence. as long as you have tax and insurance you are OK. i would go to an off road centre as these sell them and they will tell you everything that you need to know. they are loads of fun though! On your car licence you can only ride "bikes" of 50cc I think this includes quads. I know you definitely need tax and insurance the quad needs to be road legal and have lights,MOT if over 3 years old, registration tax and insurance (your car insurance will not cover you),just as any other road going vehicle. You do not need a crash helmet, but it would be advisable as well as protective clothing, I've seen what happens when someone has an accident on this kind of transport. Still interested then motorbike shops sell them, it's just a case of finding how which one's they will fill you in with all the details. Go down to your local police station and they would be glad to advise you James. |
