I'm thinking of getting a motorcycle, help me get started? |
Since I was a little kid I always dreamed to drive a motorcycle. Now that I'm going to turn 18 soon, it's time to start thinking about it seriously. First of all, could someone tell me every step of getting a motorcycle driver license in Quebec? Also, I'm looking for a sport model ( I don't like the cruisers and I know I wont be showing off or do anything dangerous) but I don't want something to powerful. What would you guys suggest me for first bike?Should I go for used or new? Also, how expensive are insurance for a 18 years old driver? 1.safety course 2.able to accommodate your height 3.not too heavy 4.go for used good luck!!! 1.Drivers hand book. take the test, pass, now you are licensed. 2Suzuki GSX R 600cc. Perfect bike, get one 3 years old, cheeper. 3.Full face helmet 4.Vanson Leather Jacket 5.Jeans & boots 6.Call Progressive & Geico for a quote on insurance. A good dealer will should suggest a model to fit your size and level of riding skill. Of course, they will want to sell their brand, so talk to several and see what they have to offer. You may find a used model that someone like yourself had and traded up to a bigger bike. You might not want to jump right onto a "crotch rocket". The mid-displacement bikes can fly due to the high power-to-weight ratio. You sound pretty knowledgeable. Do your homework on the other matters and take a safety course. Good Luck. Let me know how it goes. Motorcycle Technician, Parts and Accessories Manager ok the very first thing i would do is dont buy a motercycle buy an dirt bike or a off road bike like honda cr 250 its a two stroke so it will fly and it a good looking bike but its a dirt bike dont use it on the road big mistake if you get caught with it on the road but i say buy a dirt bike fist because there alot cheaper and you dont need insurance or any of that crap for a dirtbike off road but also you will learn to use a clutch you will what bikes is all about maybbe you buy a dirt bike and ride and say nooo way this stuff isnt for me and after riding the dirt bike for about a year and think you realy want a sport bike then sell the dirt bike then do all the insurance stuff and paper work and get a bike that looks good to you and as far as cc wise get a 500 to a 650 maybee a 700 all depends how confident you are then you will be all set for the road me Start by going to motorcycle school. The Canada Safety Council has a program near you ( www.ridertarining.org). Steps to obtain a motorcycle license Pass a knowledge test, which allows you to obtain a class 6R learner鈥檚 license. This license is required in order to drive during the mandatory driving course. Take a driving school鈥檚 theory and practical course, then pass a closed track test. This step allows you to obtain a class 6A learner鈥檚 license. Pass a road test, which allows you to obtain a full-privilege driver鈥檚 license or a probationary license. Check your knowledge online! Check your knowledge about driving a motorcycle will help you prepare for the knowledge test for a license or update your grasp of theory. This is from the "Soci茅t茅 de l'assurance de Qu茅bec" web site, (www.saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/driver... If still want to become a motorcyclist, then select a bike suitable to your skill level, start small (less than 600cc). As a new rider, unless you are some sort super athlete, you need to develop balance, coordination and skill to safely ride. |
