Tell me about (Hero) mopeds...? |
I'm a student looking for alternative transportation. I heard about a 2005 "hero" for sale cheap but I know nothing else... I've never had a bike so any information would be a benefit. avg. maintanence costs? gas mileage? insurance? safety? how much fun is it? ya all the good stuff! thanks well a real biker but a Friend of mine is 50 yrs and miner disability and the state won't let him get a license so he bought a hero in 2004 still has it it s safe easy to ride for the 1st time in his life has he has Independence and mobility there very low ma int.and fun they get good gas mileage so Sheree go by one and in joy the wind Unless you are in an area where there are already a lot of mopeds on the streets, I would recommend that you avoid a moped. Maintenance could be a problem. Most motorcycle repair places won't touch a moped. Most bicycle shops won't work on mopeds. Mopeds will only go about 35 miles per hour. In many areas that is not safe. Get a scooter instead. They cost more, but they are more reliable, go faster, look cooler & get great gas mileage. But be sure to take the motorcycle safety course. You can get hurt just as much on a moped or scooter as you can on a motorcycle. Most collisions occur at slower speeds. You lose if you get in a collision - it doesn't matter who is at fault. 90% of people who get in motorcycle collisions have not taken the safety course. we had a couple of 'Heros' on our Army base in TX, they were a hoot to ride, and as safe as any bicycle provided you were not stupid on one. almost no gas consumption compared to a car, never had a maintenance issue even though we were not 'kind' to the bikes. They made life a lot easier, and I think more people should be using these terrific little 'toys'. just my thoughts... best wishes The small tires mean every time you steer a turn over loose gravel atop hard surface roadway there is an expectation that the machine will fall over. I once had a Yamaha 50cc Champ Model that did that frequently and experienced same on an Italian Mo-ped. While they are inexpensive to operate there is no savings on 2-wheel insurance but life insurance is a good idea. If roads were seas you'd be the tuna and every auto can eat you alive, but uh-huh, they are wonderful in the summer heat. |
