Buying a motorcycle....? |
How do I learn to ride if I need the bike, and need to be licensed. I cant very well buy one to practice on if I need a motorcycle license to get registration and insurance. Its a catch 22, you need a license to practice, but you cant get a license if you only have a small idea how to drive a motorcycle. By the way, I was thinking of getting a CBR 750 or 850...any input on those, or what other type to buy? Buy a 225 as your first bike. Learn to ride it, take the driving test on it and then sell it and buy the bike you want. You need to start out with a permit. You get that with just a paper test and a couple of bux. Left hand clutch, left foot shifter 1-N-2-3-4-5-6. Right lever, front brake, twist throttle right foot, rear brake. If you know how to ride a bicycle well, and how to drive a stick shift, you should do ok. check out local colleges - i took a course about one hundred years ago - but, where i took it is still there - now you take the course AND get your license once completed - it's a two day course good luck and ride safe no opinion on your choice of rides - just be safe Hi, Abate has classes, they provide a small bike 125cc or 250cc to learn on. You must have a beginners license from the BMV and hold it for 30 days. Then you can register for the class and learn. After successfully taking the class and passing you will be able to get the endorsement on you license. Just do a search on the internet for Abate of Indiana and it will tell the locations of the classes they are all around the state. Hope this helps. Tammy Look for a Motorcycle Safety Foundation course. They have a classroom and riding instruction and you usually (depending on the state) recieve a card that you just bring to the DMV to get your motorcycle endorsement on you licence. Motorcycle Safety Foundation course. Google for them. You learn to ride with their 250cc motorcycles. You can go to your DMV and take the written tests. You get a Learners' Permit. This will allow you to ride your motorcycle during the day, no passengers, not on the freeway. You can buy a motorcycle, but you'll need a friend who's a rider to ride it home for you. > CBR 750 or 850 During your first six months, you will be tempted to exceed the speed limit and with one of these powerful and heavy motorcycles under you, you will pile it into a corner, total the bike, and be injured. For your first motorcycle, get a USED lightweight motorcycle that isn't terribly powerful. How about a nice Honda Rebel 250? No? How about a Kawasaki Ninja 250? I'm saying used because your first motorcycle WILL end up on its side. Better to get that out of the way on a used beater of a bike than with the brand new motorcycle of your dreams. I don't know where you live. However, in some places you can ride a 50cc bike with only a car drivers license. This could let you build experience before getting a bike DL. Check with your local Harley dealer. Many have classes that will teach you to ride on their bikes. Not only is it fun, you learn a lot. Then look at Harleys. You'll be surprised. |
