Is a Yamaha Virago 250 a better idea for getting around town than getting a scooter? |
I am 23 and I still don't have a car. With school and everything else I really can't afford car insurance, gas and car payments so I decided to try something with two wheels. I looked into scooters for a while and came up with a Yamaha Vino 125 as a good option. While at the dealership I came across the Virago 250 and I'm wondering if its a better idea to get a small motorcycle instead of a big scooter. I'm not really into the sport bikes. Any ideas? Dose the Virago seem like a good idea for someone just wanting to get around town a little? Always choose a motorcycle over a scooter when you have a choice. Motorcycles have better suspension and won't get thrown around like scooters. Motorcycles are heavier and wont get blown around like scooters. Motorcycles have stronger brakes and will stop faster in panic situations. Motorcycles have more power and better acceleration to veer away from potential accidents. Motorcycles have larger diameter wheels and won't get swallowed up by pot-holes and won't bounce up in the air when hitting a bump. A motorcycle's engine will last longer than a scooter. Motorcycles are safer to ride in the rain. Don't get me wrong, scooters are dependable, get a little better gas mileage, cost less to repair, easier to push home when they break LOL and are fun to ride. But when given a choice, get a motorcycle. Yes, the larger wheels and full size suspension & brakes will mean much better (safer) ride & handling than any scooter. Yes this is a much better deal. You will have an actually motorcycle you can take out of town if necessary etc. But i would check into the license and ins first these could be higher as well as the fact you should have a motorcycle license. In some states they can take you bike away and sell it if you do not have a motorcycle lic. Well if you never plan on jumping on the interstate the scooter is fine, but the scooter must be at least 175cc to ride on the interstate. A motorcycle is a better bet all around, they are actually easier to handle. a Virago is a good solid motorcycle, drivehaft no chain to bother with, low to the ground, smooth riding, and parts availability good. Don't know the laws where you are but here you are not required to have a motorcycle license to drive a scooter. Scooter's generally get better milage that a motorcycle depending on engine size. Now if you want a scooter you can get them with engine sizes up to 750cc's. That'll get you moving. The Virago 250 is a nice bike to ride. Dirt cheap and forgiving ride. Better then any "scooter" built. Yeah, get the Virago 250, Linda. |
