Whats a good first bike? 125cc? |
Want to spend a grand GBP or a little more, but around 500 on insurance, and a balance of good miles/gall (50-100) and speed (want to be able to go at least 60). I want it all basically! ;) I've just passed CBT and have no no-claims-bonus, and 21 which makes insurance bit expensive. Any suggested models guys? Cheers honda phantom YAMAHA TZM or HONDA SP if ur lookin for a really good lookin bike and fast id suggest a YAMAHA DT125 if u want a geared bike that is u will do 60mph easy with this bike and they are at all sorts of prices some cheap and some a bit dearer but with a grand to spend u should find 1 easy. But if u wanna see the bike search an image of one im tellin u they r BAAAAAAADDDDDD!!!!!! I do not know where you are from but there is a new series of bikes on the market which are perfect for learners. The reason why the are perfect is because they are 500 - 650 cc motorcycles which have been restricted for learners and then when you are fully qualified they can be serviced and the govenor on the engine is removed so you then have a 500 to 650 cc motorcycle. In Australia these are called LAMS bikes. The beauty of then is that you only have to buy one motorcycle to start with which saves time and moneyu and also gets you used to a bigger bike , size wise , without the power. 125s are a dangerous first option as they are too light and too slow to be of any real longterm value. If you dont want to be serious about bikes then motorscooters are another option for the new rider . Current scooters are safer, cheaper and more manouverable than ever before and can solve a lot of transport issues. Be in no doubt mate, bikes can get you killed, I have been a rider for over 30 years and I have seen it all. Dont walk before you run, pick a bike that feels good for YOU, is in your price bracket and suits YOUR needs. Anything less is a sacrifice and it could be your life that is being sacrificed hero honda glamour You should be able to find a half decent Aprilia rs 125 for that kind of money. It is a great little bike but it is a two stroke so it isn't much fun unless you flog it. Also this means they require a fair bit of maintainance. Have a look at what the laws regarding learner riders are. Something four stroke and a little bit bigger will probably be a better option, like a Honda CBR250 or even a slightly bigger bike if the law allows you. Honda XL125 - Superb bike, easy to work on, reliable, fun, holds value well, cheap to insure, tough, looks good, plays off road ok and good around town, 65-70mpg. But everyone will give you a different answer.. With bikes my advice is try them and keep moving onwards and upwards the more experienced you get. Safe riding Steve |
