Taking MSF course next weekend. just looking around for bikes?

I am taking the MSF course next weekend and I am just kinda browsing around at bikes. I don't have much experience on bikes. I really like the Kawasaki Ninja series, I was just wanting opinions if i should get a 250 or 500? Reading the reviews and everything it seems like the 250's these days are pretty fast and I think that would be good enough for me to learn on. But i read about some people getting bored with them in about a month. So would it be smart for me to go with a 250r or jump up to a 500r for my first bike? Is there a big difference in insurance? any help would be needed thank you very much. and sorry for my ignorance.

I would go with some thing a bit bigger than 250. I would also choose and older one that is inexpensive. The reason is that you will still be learning, and it is likely the bike will be on it's side. Don't forget there are two kinds of bikers....those that have been down and those who will go down.

Opt for the cheaper older one, because parts are often times cheaper and it doesn't hurt the wallet (or the ego) as much to drop a $1000- $2000 bike. Today's sport bikes look great, but the plastic parts the scratch when they go down are expensive and look terrible before you can get them fixed.
I think 250s are ideal bike to learn on if you are small to average height and weight. If you over 5'10" and 200lbs you should be loolking at 500cc.
Buy used. You just need the bike for one season while you work on getting your "sea-legs". Then trade up over the winter for a bike that will keep you happy for the next 5 yrs or so.
The link is a picture of my 250cc I'm selling on eBay.

the 500 isnt that fast unless you just plan to commute and you have taken the course get the 500 it will save you from selling the 250 in a month or two insurance shouldnt be that different when you hit 600 cc is when it gets your insurance higher
Really I think it depends on how you feel . Im 4'11, so I thought it would be good for me to start on a smaller bike. However, I got the 500r. Because, I felt more comfortable on that. So it really depends on you. Also, you may get tired of the 250 faster. I was tired of my 500 after 6 months of riding and wanted to upgrade.
