In New York City, why are peddie cabs more expensive than taxis?

With the low overhead (compared to buying a car, insurance, and gas) that peddie cabs seem to have, why are they so expensive? It's just a guy peddling a bike, right?

1. Sure its cheaper, but instead of pressing the gas peddling you have to run up slow inclines with cars wizzing by, pedistrians randomly appearing and delivery bikes. And on top of that you have to pull along 1-2 people + bags. Each person is AT LEAST 150 pounds.

2. They are so uncommon and cabs are much more realible, nobody goes out of their house and looks for a peddie cab to wave down.

3. They are weather dependent, if it's raining REALLY hard, or snowing they cant work, and they have to make up for it.

4. Think of the horse rides in central park. They are extremely expensive, not so much because of the horse care, but because they are a touristy thing, and "a thing" to do, and tourists are willing to pay that much to say they've been on one.
it should be cheaper like most places but they are a novelty and theperson driving them wouldnt be able to earn a living if they didnt charge higher because they get less riders then taxi fares
When's the last time you had to fill up a regular cab with a
steak dinner, baked potatoes and side salad.
Probably b ecause it's something you don't see that often. It's a rarity. You see many cabs out there but not many pedicabs. It's all about supply and demand. The more they supply the less the demand, the cheaper it will be. The less they supply, the more the demand, the more expensive it is. Look at TMX Elmo. They could techinically charge 100 dolalrs for it. Remember when Cabbage Patch Kids were in style? They were like 100 dollars for that doll!
the pedicabs are a tourist thing. plus i think its more expensive becuase it is a guy peddling a bike. kind of a hard job, don't you think, with all of the traffic?
