Is the Kawasaki EX250 Ninja a reliable and practical commuter motorcycle?

if any one owns one, how do you like it and how are the insurance rates.
I'm not to worried about the small motor issues, as this would be a second bike for "commuting" 54 miles per day back and fourth to work, and my zx750 would be a weekend warrior as the modifacations I have made to it dramaticly decreased the streetability and gas mileage.

The ex250's a great bike for the size and price. However, commuting 50+ miles on it, especially if you're gonna be on the freeway isn't all that great. Wind protection is pretty minimal and you'll get knocked around a lot by crosswinds. You'll also be winding it up pretty good to get up to speed.

For commuting I would recommend something bigger and fully faired, but not super sporty. Something like the zzr's, katana, hurricane, thundercat(yzf-600), or maybe even a cbr f2/f3. Of course, something like a VFR or a Sprint ST might be ideal, but they aren't cheap.
Reliable yes, practical...........I would buy the 500.
numb hands, and a torn up little engine. i really think you'll find it very uncomfortable on long trips.
this bike is more suitable for leisure and recreational. but with lower cc it may save fuel compare to your 750 bike. considering the distance, you may need a bike with more ergonomic or clinically good riding position so that it won't make you tired or fatique when you reach workplace or home. Unless you're young and energetic. but a 750 bike also gives you better gas mileage compare to a car. in my opinion the best commuter bike is the one used by Arnold Schwazaneggar in Terminator 3. but I'm sure you won't like it. Try shop around and check out other brand - Honda, Yamaha
For a perfect commuter bike...Find a good used older Honda. My friend had a great Honda Silverwing. It was 500cc and all built like a baby Gold Wing. Very Comfortable. Also, check out the older Honda Twinstar bikes from the early 80s. I rode a Honda CM400T for a while and REALLY liked it alot. It was very light(375lbs) which made it a real breeze in traffic. It had good power up to about 70mph...then it died off. I put a set of Hardbags and a Vetter QuickSilver compact fairing on it. It was a great little commuter bike. Once outfitted and freshly tuned up, it was VERY reliable and averaged 50mpg in city traffic in Omaha.

If you need a more modern bike, I really liked the little Kawasaki Vulcan 500 bikes. For commuting though, be sure to get some large hard or soft bags and the biggest windshield that doesn't look guady. It REALLY makes the commute comfortable. Good Luck!
