I think everyone should be given the same off-the-shelf bike, helmet and clothing to actually see who can ride it fastest. It seems to be about which country can spend the most money on making their bike lighter and more aero-dynamic. Discuss...

Technology shouldn't be the overriding factor when atheletes compete. It should be talent first and if they take a similar situation like the Pentathletes; get bikes which are of similar design and has no undue advantage or disadvantage to the cyclists an even playing field then so be it.

There are rules as to what is a legal bike and what equipment you are allowed to use.
Within those rules everyone is equal.
I think what you are leaning toward is using pool bikes, sort of like the horses the pentathletes use, they do not use their own horse.
Then everything would be equal.

The brits have the best bikes. Been sat in wind tunnels for three years to develope them. Also used formular one technology.
