Can you use a skateboard helmet for biking?

if it is not too heavy.... go for it....

as long as you are protecting your brain.

Sure. Its a bit heavier and less aerodynamic than most bike helmets, but certainly functional.

If I were going to use it, I'd add some bright or reflective tape and stickers for visibility.

As long as your using a helmet were all happy (even though some professinal cyclist argue that they shouldn't have to wear helmets). But if you're using that for road biking it's going to slow you down. Try an arrow dynamic helmet for road biking.

If it's for mountain biking that helmet's perfetly fine as long as it's not loose or anything.

Any helmet is better than none, but consider this... there are three primary differences in the skateboard helmet vs. a cycling helmet:

Skateboard helmets usually cover further down the backside of your head because you tend to fall backwards and hit the back of your head more frequently.

Cycling helmets tend to be more supporting of the front and top of your head because most falls are forward.

Skateboard helmets are usually not as comfortable on a bike because they are heavier, and usually do not have as good of air flow to keep your head cooler while riding.

While weight may not seem like a big deal for a short ride in town - a few ounces can become noticeably heavier after a few hours on the bike.

Having the added airflow for cooling can make a huge difference on 3 hour ride in the summertime.

Most importantly - which ever helmet you're wearing, make sure it is fitted properly to your head and secured so that in the unlikely event that you do suffer a fall, your helmet will be in a position to help you.

Simple test - put your helmet on and then lean over quickly if it moves it's not tight enough. Look in the mirror - if the middle of your forehead isn't covered - it's tilted back to far.

ya might be more protective but very air resistant and i bit heavy

Yea its protection for your noggin, its the same style as pro-tech so for bmx dirt jumping/ street and mtb free riding its almost a standard.

The crash design and testing is different.

If you have a helmet law it is likely that this does not have the correct cert stickers on it and you can still get a ticket.

I know you think it won't matter but your parents and girlfriend might miss you when you fall down and hit your head...
