Does my 18 mo. old baby have to wear a halmet while on the trailer bike?

i am just asking, he DOES WEAR his helmet, just want to know, and, do i have to stop at the STOP signals too?? (this is when im alone, with my baby always stop)

Do you wear a helmet? Babies cannot protect themselves and it is up to the parents to do so. I'm glad to see that you do put it on him while cycling. For your safety, please obey all traffic laws just as if you were driving a motorized vehicle. If you don't stop when you are alone, it could possible become habit and you might fail to stop when your baby is with you. I hope that never happens.

yes wear a helmet and obey all signs.

Yes Absolutely ........A very good idea

YES helmet always---and you have to follow all rules of the road. A bike is concidered a car. You have to obey speed limits, stop signs, and should signal turns like a motorcyclist does. (most cops don't push it that far---but they can). But I have gotten a speeding ticket on a bike, and running a stop sign ticket. And they are the same as if driving a car.

yes definitely to both.
especially since you can get ticketed for not following road signs just like when you're in a car.

It is better to be safe than to be sorry.

Yes, have him wear a helmet even if your local law doesn't require it. You should wear one too, to set a good example (If you don't wear one already). And always stop at stop signs and red lights. Bikes are required to obey all traffic laws, just as if you were in a car.

yes...anyonw under the age of 18 years old are required by California Vehicle Code to wear a helmet.

Depending on your location, I don't think he is REQUIRED to, but apparently your common sense makes it a moot point.

A bicycle rider must follow all rules of the road just like a car or motorcycle !!! That's a fast way to get killed!

Its a good idea for both of you to wear a helmet. Its cheap insurance against the unlikely.

As for traffic laws, you are required to follow them, just as though you are in a motor vehicle.

The whole reason for traffic laws is so we all have a reasonable expectation of what the other person is going to do.

You make decisions to go through an intersection based on traffic, and whether the other vehicles have to stop. Isn't it fair that they be able to predict your actions as well? Accidents happen when someone is surprised or does something unexpected.

A little story: I'm out riding and come up to a stop sign. I stop. Looking to my right, I see a car with the right of way (no stop on his street) because he is coming over railroad tracks. He stops and waves me through, even though vehicles are caught behind him ON THE TRACKS. The lights start flashing and the gates come down. I don't go, because I know it'll take me a second or so to clip in and get going, probably to get hit by the panicked drivers who go around him to get off the tracks. Fortunately, he figures it out in time, averting disaster.

Why did this happen? Because cyclists like you run stop signs, so motorists can't reliably predict how a cyclist is going to behave in traffic.
