What other sort of gear can i wear?? |
i recently asked on this site about getting myself a small scooter just to get to and from work on. a few days ago i went to hav a look at some brand new scooters to see what would suit me. i have all the information i need on my licence, the test, tax and insurance, but then the salesman started going into what i need to wear while on the bike. i realise that leathers are there to give a certain amount of protection incase of accidents, but i was wondering if there is an alternative to wearing just leathers? its only a scooter that only does up to 35 miles per hour, so i wondered if all this leather stuff is necessary? i dont want to be dressed like im riding a harley!!!he also mentioned boots, leather gloves, ect ect. do i need boots too?i realise that a helmet is law and for my own safty, and i havent a problem with that. could you help me out here please, as this is all new to me. thank you in advance. thank you for all your helpful comments, but one last thing.... i havelooked on a coupleof sites for all the riding gear tha yu have all recommended and they are so expensive. i know there is no substitute for saving yur life, that goes withoutsaying, and i will buy excatly what i need, but is there anywhere that sells all what i need, like maybe a warehouse or places to look that cuts the middle man out. ifi have to pay full price, then so be it, but i am on sort of a budget at the moment... any ideas?? Sorry but have to say forget fashion, image and all the rest of it . At a minimum you want long pants (jeans are ok), gloves and some kind of jacket. I've crashed twice on my motorcycle bothtimes at 40 or less and both times was in the hospital for 10 days so 35 is plenty fast enough to get seriously hurt. as for boots...well I have yet to see a woman who objected to buying shoes :) There's loads of nice textile bike gear about. I always wear textile jackets. Boots need to be sturdy and leather, Doc Marten type things would be OK on a scoot, no steel toecaps though. Get proper bike gloves, leather or textile - leather tend to be less bulky but not as warm in winter. A sturdy pair of trousers is a good idea, you can get kevlar lined jeans that look pretty nice. I would say you need..... that question was asked just below. but my answer was yes there are web site for women bikers ie The Law only requires you to wear a Safety Helmet designed for Motorcycle Road Use. You cou go naked if you so desire, but I don't recommend it ! all these things are for your safety motorcycling is not about how good you look it's about enjoying the freedom riding brings to you so forget about fashion and here is a list of items one should have for riding Some people are under the delusion that a layer of leather is armor against 2000lbs of flying steel, and if they just wear their leathers it makes biking safe. This attitude makes them less safe. leathers thats to sizes smaller than u gloves boots helmet back protecto armor full wiorks Look at http://www.dragginjeans.com.au You need the very best protection you can get. Try here: helmet is most important its required by law. but you must have good boots and jacket. try going round few bike shops and see whats going. in dublin we have a couple of big warehouses where you can go and get everything at reduced prices. i bought jacket [fully padded] trousers[fully padded] gloves again padded and top of the range boots all for 350 euro approx-拢240. remember safety first. Leathers on a scooter may look a little silly but will offer the best protection in case of a spill. If you do go down the denim route make sure they are specially made for motorcycling people get so hung up on leathers - and i see you say you don't to look like you ride a Harley! I have ridden bikes for 40 years and I only ever wear jeans and a denim jacket! Yes I do have good boots and waterproof gloves, but on a scooter I don't think you need to go mad with protective cothing. I would suggest you visit local charity shops which often have a good range of motorcycle suitable clothing. New helmet of course. For waterproof over clothes try a visit to your local agricultural retailer (Mole Valley Farmers and the like) they sell real good quality waterproofs for farmers much cheaper than most shops. Any decent pair of shoes will suit you fine Budget on ankle bone 拢10,000 ,digits say 拢1000 each elbow 拢10,000 with movement 拢15,000, get the picture the best kit you can afford will save you pain . If you feel 35 mph is slow try running down the road then throwing yourself to the ground. ..100% more fun with your clothes on. |
