Why do parents allow their children to ride around on bikes after dark with no lights and no cycle helmets ?

I take it from your intellectually challenged response that you are one of those that I am refering to.

Well if you are reading this let point out to you that I have seen first hand a child who was knocked off his bike when he wasn't wearing a safety helmet who will spend the rest of his life handicapped and requiring constant care.

Is that your idea of cool ? Or would you rather live safely ?

Because many adults do also? I drive along and see many idiots who haven't got reflectors on or adequate lighting.....
I don't normally see them until I'm right up behind them......
People obviously don't value their lives or safety???

Because it seems like parenting these days is not on most peoples' agendas who have children. But I am getting very cynical, so I say-oh freakin well-it's not my problem---let em be stupid

there dumb and they might care but they dont want to give there kids a ride b/c they r lazy or tired cause cant label everyone as lazy

not all parents do. children shouldn't ride there bikes after dark period in my oppion. and they really shouldn't ride in the the dark with out lights.

i never wore a helmet when i was kid. one no big hills and i wasn't allowed to ride my bike on a busy street. or go any where besides up and down the same street.

Not very conscientious parents. Some people seem to have no care in the world about important things. My kids won't be out in the dark, riding bicycles PERIOD. I guess some parents are so brain-dead they don't even care that their child could be abducted. There are many lousy parents out there. Has anybody seen that guy that killed his baby in Galveston, Texas ???? Plenty of justice waiting for you in prison "A**hole" !

In today's society, yes it is dangerous. Things are not the same as when I was growing up and lived in a town where we could ride our bikes after dark, (the street lights were well mamintained, and everyone knew each other on the block).
Today, with my kids, I do not allow them out on the streets after the sun goes down. If they do, we are out in the yard together, and there are enough lights around my house to see what is going on in the whole yard. Even though I know the neighbors, and we let our kids play together, we are very careful about the cars that drive down our street, and will get tag numbers and turn them in.
Some of the parents do allow their older kids to wander the streets at night either walking or with bikes, and we had to call the police several times because they were shooting out the streelights with a pellet gun. (Thankfully they did move out of the area.)
It's sad to see parents allow this, and claim no responsibility, or if something did happen to their kids, why were't we watching them for them? It's society in general today that stinks.
