Meet Ranger my destructive Boxer puppy...?

When does Puppy stage end? He's a year and 1 month now
I've meet w/ people who have had Boxers and they say 3 years... Does any one have any advise for Puppy anxiety?

So far he has destroyed:
1 BBQ Ignitor wire
1 pair of jumper cables
1 bike helmet
1 electric wire to the water heater
2 broom handles
1 seco palm plant
1 gardina plant
2 out door seat cushins
1 box of trash bags
1 case of Sprite cans
and I can go on. ....

Ps... He has toys to play with that I change out daily, I do puppy proof his space, and I do walk and play catch w/ him everyday for about an hour to an hour and a 1/2... I think training will be a good idea...

Introduction
Puppies are cute, cuddly and fun. Puppies can also be destructive and frustrating. Many dog owners can tell tales of chewed up household items. Caring for a puppy involves a major time and financial commitment and a lot of patience. It is important to become an educated dog parent so you can raise a healthy, well trained member of the family.
Instructions
Difficulty: Challenging
Things You'll Need
Puppy food and supplies
Veterinarian
Obedience training class
Patience
Steps
1Step OneTake some time to seriously consider if a puppy is right for you. You may decide that it is better to adopt a young dog that is already trained. There are many animal shelters and rescue groups that have healthy, adoptable dogs that are waiting for a new home.
2Step TwoPurchase supplies such as food, an identification tag, collar, leash, toys, bedding and grooming supplies. Also plan to license your puppy with your state when he is old enough. Each state has different requirements, so contact your county's animal care and control office with inquiries.
3Step ThreePlan a budget to provide appropriate medical care. Puppies need several vaccinations during their first few years. Unless you plan to breed your dog, you should spay or neuter. Find a veterinarian you like. Ask family and friends who have pets for a recommendation. When selecting a vet, consider the location and business hours in relation to your lifestyle.
4Step FourRemove temptation. Puppies have little self-control. Remove all items within the puppy's reach that he may find appealing to chew. Restrict the puppy's access within the house when you go out.
5Step FiveStart house training as soon as you bring the puppy comes home. Pick a spot outside and take the puppy there on a frequent basis. Give praise when the puppy goes potty outside. Expect that there will be some accidents. Consult a book or website for guidance.
6Step SixSet rules and correct bad behavior. All puppies make mistakes. How you respond will determine if your puppy grows up to be a well-behaved dog. Learn the proper way to correct bad behavior. Ask your veterinarian, read a book or visit dog care websites. Never hit your dog!
7Step SevenSign up for obedience training as soon as the puppy is old enough. The United States Humane Society recommends puppy obedience class when a dog is between 8 and 16 weeks old. There are many options including a group class at a local pet store or private instruction at home.
Tips & Warnings
Get help if you have problems caring for your puppy. Contact your veterinarian, a professional dog trainer or your local animal care and control for advice.
Introduction
It鈥檚 normal for a dog to dig and chew, but when he鈥檚 digging up your prize roses and chewing on your favorite sneaker, it鈥檚 time to put a stop to his destructive behavior. Your dog can be re-trained to chew only on the toys and rawhides you provide, but you will have to be consistent with your techniques.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderate
Steps
1Step OneProvide plenty of appropriate dog toys to keep your pooch鈥檚 chewing needs satisfied, but don鈥檛 give him objects that may confuse him in the process. If you give him an old shoe you no longer use, he will think chewing on shoes is appropriate behavior and he will promptly chew on any within reach. Only provide dog toys and rawhides that he will recognize as his own.
2Step TwoKeep important objects out of his reach. Dogs, like children, are tempted by items that are directly in their paths. Put your shoes in the closet and your baseball mitt on the shelf to thwart destructive behavior.
3Step ThreeStore dirty laundry in a hamper. Male and female dogs, both, will chew the fabric out of unlaundered underwear. No, there is nothing wrong with your dog; his sense of smell tells him chewing on unlaundered 鈥渦ndies鈥?is a good thing. Put them in the hamper and close the lid if you don鈥檛 want to keep replacing your undergarments.
4Step FourSpray pet deterrent on the legs of chairs and tables if your dog develops a furniture-chewing habit. This is also a good technique for keeping him from digging holes in your garden. In that situation, saturate a small piece of fabric and place it in his favorite digging spot.
5Step FiveMake some noise. Motion detectors that emit a loud shriek can be purchased from your pet store or hardware store and set up to startle your pooch before he takes a bite out of your new sofa.
6Step SixReprimand your dog immediately. If you catch him in the act, speak sharply and in a low tone to let him know you are angry with his destructive behavior. Remove him from the vicinity of the crime. If you wait, he will not understand why he is in trouble.
Tips & Warnings
Physical punishment is rarely effective and will only cause your dog to become anxious, which could increase the problem. Spare the rod no matter how important the item he destroyed may be. He doesn鈥檛 know its value.

He will grow out of the puppy stage naturally, probably in about 2 years, but for now, let him enjoy his puppy days, maybe he's bored and needs some enjoying toys to play with, maybe some squeaky toys - even though they get really really really on your nerves lol but at least it amuses them! My papas dog charlie, he destroyed my mcdonalds toys :O :( but only because he was looking for something to play with lol x

Obedience training, baby!

PS, Tammy, do you have any answers that actually come from your brain and not from eHow?

Oh, he sounds like my two terriers when they were right around that age and up until they were about 16 months. But, for a boxer, I think 3 years is about right. He will probably start to stop being so destructive more around 18 months, but not without some help from you. Try to manage his environment better so he doesn't have the opportunity to get into so much trouble unsupervised. More exercise if possible and obedience classes are a must! Good luck.

It sounds more like a lack of training, than being a puppy.

Contact a trainer.

You picked a breed that is extremely hyper. Do you have a secure fenced yard to keep him in? Does he have another dog to run around with a use up his energy? If not, then you are causing his chewing and anxiety because he can't exercise properly, like his breed needs to. Get a fenced yard, and go get a more laid back mutt so he can teach your dog to calm down. And yes, 3 years sounds about right!

Well I hate to say it but you should have had this under control long ago. When someone says a dog will out grow its puppiness by a certain age that usually means its hyperactivity not its chewing. By now you dog just has a bad behavior that you will have to break. I own two boxers, ages 7 and 5, both we have had since 8 weeks of age. Never in the time I have had them have either one of them ate anything they are not suppose to. It is your responsibility as the owner to dog proof your home and yard and crate a dog that cannot be trusted when unsupervised. If he is having anxiety attacks and only chewing because he has been left alone you need to take time to retrain him. Maybe on the weekends (or week days if you have time) leave him home alone with a treat filled kong, leave him for only 15 minutes. If he has been good in that time praise him for being a "good boy". Next time leave him 30 minutes, praise him again if he has been good with no destructive behavior. You want to keep your dog guessing as to when you are coming home break his mindset of you being gone for 8 hours (or whatever). Gradually increase the time but if the dog fails and starts destroying things go back to the amount of time that was last successful. You can even once in awhile just drop back in after walking out for five minutes. You can also contact a trainer for more advise or your vet for medication (which I only suggest as an absolute last resort). Good luck.

I have a 1 year old Boston Terror. He gets plenty of exercise, plenty of play time at the dog park, and with the neighbor dog, but he still has the tendency to 'get in trouble'. We have found that he needs LOTS of supervision. When we are doing something else, we make sure that anything that he can destroy or harm himself has been closed off, or baricaded off. We've had to change the set up of our home around 'the dog'. We found this to be much more easier (some will say that we're lazy and don't want to train.. but he's a PUPPY - and we still have things to do. Leaving him in a crate when we are doing stuff is not an option).

So, with that being said, we make sure that he has lots of toys that he can play with. I've recently discovered the industrial strength Kong's. He stayed busy with just the Kong (no stuffing) all night long. He did not want us ti take it away when it was time for bed.

So, depending on your circumstances, maybe a little more training, re-arranging your home, and more exercise to tire your dog out.

boxers are known for being large puppies becuase they stay puppy like for around 3 years. Your dog sounds bored. What do you do to keep him busy? How much excersse does it get?

You should have named him Carpenter cos he's been doing all kinds of odd jobs around the house.
I know you must think he's giving you a good excuse to go shopping but seriously he's bored.
Boxers are very high energy dogs and it will take longer than 3 yrs for him to slow down.I've known several who were bouncing off the walls and ceiling still at 6 yrs of age.
You need to step up and take control of this pup and demand he does as he's told and behaves in an appropriate manner and in return you need to give him a whole lot more exercise and mental stimulation to relieve his boredom. A tired pup sleeps it does not eat things it should'nt.
Get him into a training class or do it yourself with the help of some good manuals and get him on a daily schedule for exercise and it'll mean several brisk walks and play sessions every day regardless of the weather to calm him down. Also find the nearest dog park and get him socialized with other dogs while he's young and take him regularly for an off leash romp. When you have to leave him get him out for a walk first then leave him with things that are appropriate for him to chew. If you noticwe him eyeing something he should not that might look tasty tell him firmly NO.Then redirect his attention to something he can chew on.
