Compressor for spray painting.?

i'm doing spray painting on bikes and helmets. And i'm using a HVLP spray gun. But when i spray the air on my compressor seems to be losing air very quickly, and i'm using only about 30psi. What is the recommended size or features do i need to look at to buying a compressor for spray painting jobs??

try a rigid air compressor those are all purpose :)

The bigger the air-tank the better the pressure control and amount of air available before the compressor motor starts up again. Twin cylinder compressors are even better. Price is usually the best guide on compressors. Go to an auto repair shop and see what they use. You could also get your existing compressor serviced. This usually involves a cleaning of everything and resetting of the control switches (when the compressor switches on and off)

First of all you need to check the air consumption of your HVLP spray gun. Gravity guns generally use less air. Depending on the gun this can be between 5 - 11 C.F.M. approx. You then need to look at your compressor, regulator, fittings and air line. In most cases the compressor manufacturer will publish air dispacement and continuous air figures. The continuous air figure is the one you need to know. This means that the compressor when it starts up will be able to deliver enough air to feed your spray gun and refill the tank too. If you are using an air fed mask or any other tools at the same time all of these figures will need to be added up when going to buy a suitable compressor.
