Eh i fell on my bike, question about a gash on my knee? |
i was biking and some car honked at me so i turned to look and see why and when i turned back i saw a pole but it was too late to turn. The pole hit my handle bar, I flew off my bike i hit my head first, i was wearing a helmet so it didnt hurt, im just worrying about my knee. At first when i looked at my knee there was like small white part inside the gash which was prob the bone, but it dissapeared when i checked it at home, prob got covered up by the blood. could it have gotten infected. I had to walk home cuz my bikes chain fell off so i couldnt treat it for like 15 minz. when i got home i took a shower rubed vaseline on it and put a bandaid on it is that ok 0,0. I peeked under the bandaid and i saw that the gash red but you can sort of see a white layer under it. Is that the bone, i heard that it would be pretty serious if that got infected. >.< Ouch! Sounds like you had quite a fall. I've scraped the skin off my knees pretty bad when I was younger and often times I could see some white stuff, which I'm pretty sure was just the fat under there. I doubt it was the bone. A gash that deep would require stitches and a trip to the E.R. As long as you wash it with warm water and soap to get rid of any dirt. Dry it up by gently patting it down with a clean towel then apply some neopsporin on the wound and put a band aid over it. It's going to hurt and take a few days for it to heal but it should heal up. If at any time it oozes or gets itchy and swolen and red it's a sign of infection and you might want to see a doctor. Take care now! You should put some alchohol ointment on it and go get it checked out just to be on the safe side. You have layers to your skin. The white you are seeing is under the outer protective layer. Keep it clean with a good antibacterial soap and use neosporin and a bandaid it will heal faster. Is it a gash or a scrape? A scrape I would suggest keeping clean and covered and watch for any heat or red swelling surrounding the area. If it is a gash anything bigger than 1/4 long and deeper than 1/8 might need stitches. If you are someone who avoids going to the doctor or fear needles use steri-strips to seal it. Carefully pinch the 2 sides together to a point it looks closed and place the strip across it to keep it held together. You might need a couple depending on how big. Avoid getting it wet or the strips won't hold it together as well. Good luck. If you want to post-phone going to the doctor this is what I would do. Make sure your tetanus shot is up-to-date BTW. First wash it out really good with an anti-bacterial soap like dial or safeguard. It wouldn't hurt to start soaking it right now instead of waiting until later. Use a wash cloth and get it as soapy as possible using one of the soaps I mentioned. Hold it onto the wound for about 20 min and repeat several times a day. After rinsing and drying put antibiotic cream on it and bandage. Keep an eye out for infection or for a red line |
