Can I wear a cap instead of a bike helmet?

Is it possible? or do I have to wear a helmet?

but would I get in trouble wit the cops if I wore a cap instead of a helmet?

Most of the answers above, are from muppets who occasionally flood in from the homepage, with absolutely no idea what they're talking about, just looking for a chance to say something and get 2 points!

Read the answer from McG, Particularly regarding the laws in your area! Pay attention if it applies to you!

Caps are fine and if you are just out with your mates or popping to the shops then - Yes! why not?

Harder riding may mean that you use some common sense and consider a helmet though!

You will NOT have traumatic head injuries if you don't wear a helmet, you only get injuries if you fall off!!

EDIT: For a case in point, my earlier comment regarding Muppets who dont know what they're talking about -have a look at the answer and link from Zephyrwind!!!!!
Does she know what a cycling cap is?????

EDIT: INTREPIDFAE - Answers like that, really get my back up!!!
If a cyclist did have a helmet and suffered a head injury would you still neny financial liability because the helmet didn't conform to Standard A or B? - 'Oh lets not give treatment to this injured cyclist with the injured leg because he wasn't wearing knee and shin pads!'

Cycle Helmets are only designed to protect against minor impact, Heavy impact will result in head injury anyway, with or without helmet.

Contributory negligence could be cited in EVERY SINGLE accident and in many cases, illness!!!

I could spend all day writing instances of contradiction to your philosophy . . .but I have no need. Think twice !

EDIT: McG it's possible! . . but it's not structured in a way to utilise it, in it's best effect. Perhaps you guys still need a few finer lessons in the British 'technique'!! lol.
.

If you don't want to die, wear a helmet.

no sorry

That depends on whether you think head injuries and brain damage are in fashion.

wear a helment for ypur saftey!!

The cap will keep your hair in place while you are riding, but the helmet will help protect your brain when you crash. Wear the helmet.

if you want to die once you fall off.
yeah.
seriously, helmets save lives..
why would you wanna lose your life over not buying one.

thats dumb

If the cab had 6 inches of foam and metal under it.

no, you have to wear a helmet if your riding a bike, most people dont, but if you dont want a ticket from a cop, wear a helmet

sure if your head is made of metal

How much protection do you think your cap will give you if you come off your bike and you hit your head. Does that answer your question?

I wouldn't recommend it. It would provide protection from tears and cuts on your head, but not heavy blows if you were to slam your head into the ground or you got him by a car and your head hit the windshield.

You have to wear a helmet... forget the cap. Always wear one while riding.

For safety issues its better to wear a helmet.

You can wear whatever you want.
A bike helmet could save your life a lot more easily than a cap could. But it's your call. Caps look cooler.

only if you don't fall on your head

THE BIKE HELMET IS FOR PROTECTION OF YOUR HEAD.WEAR IT

What do you think? How much protection can you get from a hat??

you can. I mean, it IS possible

of course, a cap wouldn't stop your head from being cracked open XD

Yea man, that will be cool.
But just don't meet an accident and hold your cap tight from blowing away.

Of course! All real cyclists wear caps instead of bike helmets... Look at the tour de france! All of them have caps on! Helmets are for losers who care about safety and living!

http://www.solarnavigator.net/sport/spor...

depends where you live and what your momma says. Some towns have a law that helmets must be worn...They are a good idea. Even the best rider can get hit by a car and wind up brain dead or paralyzed from a crash.

Well if you wear a cap and fall down you might end up ...ooh..I dunno... CRACKING YOUR FLIPPIN HEAD OPEN...

.......

RE: The cops. You will get in trouble only if you are riding in an area with a helmet law like California.

Is it possible to wear a cap instead of a helmet? Not on my head. It's physically possible, do what you want. Natural selection is possible too.

What a lot of "cool" riders do is wear cycling caps under their helmets. Acts as a sweat band. They take their brain buckets off at rest stops and have the high fashion cycle cap already in place.

If you are participating in an organized ride or race, you will be required by the organizing body to wear a helmet.

I exercise my right to wear a helmet, even on bike paths.

EDIT: Mr G, is it possible (man, I hope so) that Zephyrwind is employing sarcasm? Isn't that a British tactic?

i dont wear a helmet and i do some extream bmx rideing ill be jumping 10feet in to the air but i will wear a helmet when im trying something really dangerus but ill have a hat under the helmet so yeah

If it isn't required by law, you dont's have to wear one. But if you crash, your parents should be financially liable for your emergency medical care because you failed to take the most elementary precautions. Why should we, as taxpayers, subsidize stupidity on bicycles? We subsidize stupidity enough by funding our governments (jk).

u can wear it if u wanna die. do u really think a cap wil protect u from concrete or ashvault cracking your skull open?

ofcourse u will get busted by cops but not in all states depepns what country too

nick.

seriously a cap won't protect your noggin in case you crash and believe me you never really know when this could happen. please wear a helmet when you ride. ride hard but safe i always say.
